Annie Miller back for Lightning
Good signing by Lightning. M Hinchliffe had a very good season but Miller balances the team far better and is a long term WA option for them.
Great to see Maddie get a spot at Collingwood.
Nice to see Lewis stay at Vixens. I thought she would stay though. After seasons of bench sitting she found a home where she has thrived and never had this much court time. Why leave, stay and back yourself for starting 7.
Only Firebirds left to complete their team?
Firebirds were last to complete their team last signing period too. 2 defence spots and 1 mid-court. Who would they go for?
Does Chelsea pitman find a home? Or retiring? Was great for fever when she came on and steadied them in crucial times. Fran Williams? Temelisi?
Macy Gardner signs on at Firebirds
F’Birds have had to make some tough decisions with Aiken and Mi Mi but I think they’ve been good decisions all things considered. Gardner will be a great player for them in the future. It will be interesting to see who they sign in the defence end. I expect they’ll simply go for the highest-performing International GK at CWG and someone from ANC.
Except clubs need to have signed their 10 contracted players by this Friday and won’t get to see CWG or ANC. Unless firebirds apply for an extension to that deadline but can’t see why they’d qualify for one.
I wonder why the Firebirds are going for? Any international GKs they could sign, maybe from VNSL? I can’t think of any Aussie defenders ready for a starting spot that haven’t already been signed.
Kadeen Corbin leaving Mavericks- maybe she’s coming to the Firebirds to play GK 😉
In seriousness, what GKs are left to sign, international or domestic? Last year’s suggestions included Olivia Coleman, Clare Iongi, Remi Kamo, Fiona Fowler, Zanele Vimbela, Stacian Facey and Vangelee Williams. Temalisi Fakahokotau is an option too, but I just can’t see any of those names taking the spots. :wacko:The only up and coming Australian talent I can think of who would even be close to the level required to play GK for an SSN franchise would be Gabby Coffey. It’s unnecessary to have the deadline so early to be honest, clubs don’t even get to see players perform at ANC, let alone potential imports art CWG.
It’s also quite frustrating seeing teams being so unbalanced. 3 GKs at Lightning while none are at F’Birds, Dwan and Garbin moving to the wrong teams, Jenner and Ellis bench-warming at Fever etc.
I really wish Dehaney had gone to Firebirds instead of Lightning.
I get what al_ex is saying with the teams being unbalanced but they’re the choices the clubs and players made I guess. Lightning chose to sign 3 GKs, Magpies chose to sign a GS knowing she would be playing at GA… Jenner probably knows she can expect lots of bench time at Fever but still chose that over maybe starting at Firebirds, same with Ellis.
I wonder if Firebirds will wait til the last day to complete their team again
They should chase Funmi Fadoju if she hasn’t resigned with Pulse. I understand she is a bit on the short side and more at home at GD but can play GK (and WD) and is easily stronger than any local options. Would be an exciting addition to the league.
Then they can elevate Ash Ervin who is a tall true GK.very promising.
Coffey is a great young talent but has been transitioned to GD over the last couple of years such she is now more at home there. They need a true GK imo if they get Fadoju and RBD (which would quite an electric combination).
Where did Anika Lee-Jones end up? Pity Aiken wasn’t interested in switching to GK, played there in the past even internationally.
ALJ is playing for Thunder in the Sapphire Series but is playing GS and even GA. She’s not going too badly actually, but I don’t think she’s been in defence once this season.
