WA, that seems a odd choice. Can’t read the article, but would seem more costly for the teams travelling there.
Looks like NSW is first choice but other states might be cheaper
Melbourne netball teams are set to be relocated indefinitely to a different state mid-July, due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Victoria.
The Melbourne Vixens and Collingwood Magpies will likely be relocated to NSW ahead of Super Netball’s August 1 start date, but Western Australia, as well as Queensland and South Australia, are also being weighed up as potential relocation spots.
If the teams are moved to NSW, all players would have to undergo 14 days of quarantine but would be able to train due to an exemption for elite athletes. But relocating to a state other than NSW could prove cheaper for Super Netball, with other states also under more relaxed restrictions.
The Super Netball Commission is expected to move the team’s last-minute after July 15 in an effort to keep them in their regular home environment and training regime for as long as possible.
The commission has already received confirmation that the teams will be able to fly directly to their hubs last-minute via their cooperate sponsor Virgin Australia, despite the airline company going into voluntary administration due to COVID-19.
NSW is a great choice but I would prefer if both Melbourne teams gave least privileged states/territories the chance to see top class netball. Tasmania would be perfect for the Magpies and Vixens to the Northern Territory would be great even though Lightning has a base in Darwin. In this way, things are even up. Canberra also closed down their indoor stadium so that would make more sense to shift out of NSW. Hopefully we see more games in cities like Newcastle and Wollongong.
