I wrote this in another thread, but I find this name very meh. It’s already used for other sport teams (including netball in the NSL) and doesn’t really strike me as a foundation stone for a unique new identity that will bring supporters in. Would have preferred they went with something original, like the JackJumpers in the NBL. I could take it or leave it on the colours.
Say goodbye to the status quo.
Introducing the Melbourne Mavericks.

It is also a cricket club/teams name. Surely they could have come up with an own brand.
Less famous obviously but it’s also the name of Australia’s newest pro pickleball team. I thought their logo was the netball team’s alternate logo- it’s the exact same colours!
Guess someone better get out there and trademark the name 🙂
I find it amusing that if you Google Melbourne maverick netball you get a club that plays in the Sandringham and district local league. Also colours to me look just like the NSW rep colours they play in for nationals so I don’t see anything different or unique about the name or the colours. I don’t think someone did enough homework.
Don’t get me wrong I will support them as a ex Magpies member just a little underwhelmed. -
