Leeds Rhinos have issued a statement following today’s decision…
Interesting that the NSL statement doesn’t say whether the decision was actually correct or not. They just say that it can’t be changed, so can we gather from that, that the decision wasn’t correct?
Joyce clearly landed in the 2 point zone so I’d say yes!
I haven’t re-watched panthers/Rhinos yet. At the time I thought it was a 2point shot but from the NSL statement I’m assuming the umpire didn’t call it as a “2”
The wording is strange, the committee cannot change an umpires on court decision in respect to world netball rules. So…the world netball rules cover a 2 point shot??
Or
World netball rules say umpires decision is final ??Have to admit I didn’t think they would change it as this would open the flood gates for other decisions made during a games to be appealed
Yeah, the World Netball rules say that the umpires’ decision on court is final.
I watched it. Joyce certainly appears to take the ball in the SS zone, but another player obscures your view while she’s taking the shot. And yes, the umpire signals just a one-pointer. So that could have been a mistake, but what made it worse for Rhinos was that despite the umpire signalling 1, the stadium scoreboard went up by 2. So Rhinos played out time thinking they had one more point than they did.
It’s all a big mess that hopefully doesn’t happen again.
