Liz has been biased, same as Anne Sargeant (probably one of the worst). Sue is a great commentator, and I love it when it’s her and Coxy together.
I’m really interested to read about SM comments. Has it been posted on here?
She basically said that the game should have been called a forfeit and Fever get the points. All the while, there are a few players in the Vixens team that she coaches for Australia.
This is the name of the article that quoted Stacey. I have copied the quote below.
West Coast Fever slam Melbourne Vixens after Super Netball grand final rematch cancellation – ABC
Fever coach Stacey Marinkovich said the match should be declared a forfeit, with her team to receive the competition points, or staged later in the season.
“It’s a forfeit for me and we get those points,” she said.
“Or the game’s rescheduled and we’ve got to find a place where we can manage the players’ loads, make sure that we don’t enhance injuries [during] such a late part of the season and that we actually can get the opportunity to get the points.”
Sue’s comments were more inflammatory but to me Stacey’s comments show that she is solely focussed on her Fever role with no consideration of her diamonds role. They also come across as Fever being desperate for the points and not caring about the perception of them as a team or the impact of their statements on the SSN and other teams. Why are they so desperate? Oh that’s right…the penalty for breaching the salary cap.
Seriously, with the way Fever are playing this season they really should make the grand final and win. Hopefully if they do they can be gracious and respectful towards their opponents, unlike their recent behaviour.
This is a great piece on the controversy of last week from Brittany Carter at the ABC
Conflict between West Coast Fever and Melbourne Vixens further exposes netball’s leadership void
Fabulous article. Thanks for posting it Ian.
We’ll it’s obvious everyone is paying more attention to the first part of her comments, and not the rescheduling part (which was an OR).
Her being the Diamonds coach has nothing to do with this whole situation. Isn’t Sharelle McMahon one of the shooting coaches for the Diamonds?
Do people really believe that these 3 players Diamonds spot is at jeopardy because they spoke out?
I reckon Moloney and Mannix’s spot is in jeopardy anyway – based on form. Weston will still be in the Diamonds squad.
I’d currently have Browne, Hadley, Proud, Price, Parmenter, Simpson and Braz ahead of Moloney.
I doubt that Moloney and Mannix will make Diamonds. Moloney has been badly exposed without Watson to carry the load.as for Mannix between her per season hip surgery and fractured knuckle along with Dehaney’s form she just hasn’t been on court enough.
I feel for Weston though. She is a starting 7 Diamond and also President or Vice President (any know?) of the player’s association. Has fought very hard for the player’s rights. Would have been a very tough few days for her.
Weston should be the only Vixen in Diamonds. Assuming Watson’s injury keeps her out of the end of year test matches. Samason, Mundy and maybe Smith if she could get more court time might be in the emerging squad.
I thought I had posted this already but anyway, this is Bianca Chatfield and Ash Brazill talking about the situation…
Interesting Braz seems to be on Fevers side, B is all Vixens.
Personally I think players, particularly those from other teams, would do best to keep their opinions to themselves. No, I haven’t listened to what Braz said but its hardly doing any one or any team good wading into what has become a storm in turbulent times.
