Imagine the uproar if the Fever flew to Brisbane tomorrow, to set up camp.
Interesting comments @freonetball8
In hindsight not traveling to Byron seems obvious but as a Sydneysider myself things have been changing quickly everyday there was only a few cases a few days ago. I don’t put blame on the 3 players and as mentioned the entire team were in NSW within the 14 days anyway
If Fever expected them to play with 7 players that’s ridiculous as they would surely not do the same if they were put in that situation, especially if Fowler was one of the three
After the 2020 requirements to keep the SSN alive, I cannot believe the SSN didn’t have contingencies in place for a large range of possible situations in 2021. As all corporates with a decent risk management plan in place would have. As per the VSNL which obviously have an agreement from ALL teams as to what happens in the situation of possible COVID related issues. As much as people may have disagreed with Rhinos being awarded the points from the final two games, NOT ONE TEAM disputed or whinged via social media about the outcome as the VSNL had the foresight to have all teams agree and sign up to the rules.
A lesson the SSN could take on board. Which would stop all this bad tempered bickering about the situation foisted on everyone (not just netball players) by the state governments.
I feel like there’s something missing from this story.
Is there a rule for all these teams staying in the hub in QLD, that says you shouldn’t go away on trips outside the hub?
When did the BB 3 actually have their outing.
Welcome frönest all!
As a Melbourne based vixens fan, I was looking forward to travelling west to watch this game. My first ever away game. I finally pulled the plug last weekend, when the border was still closed to Victoria. The restrictions were changed on Wednesday to allow travel with 14 days quarantine (a bit rich when only planning to be there for 7!)
As for the Vixens – the 11 players who travelled & the 7 staff were all in Sydney to play in Round 7 (so within the last 14 days) and the WA restrictions imposed this Wednesday – after the players had their weekend off – prevents anyone in NSW in the last 14 days to enter without an exemption.
Apparently, this was forthcoming for the rest of the squad, but not the 3 who had been in northern NSW. Also exemptions were not forthcoming for members of the squad still in Melbourne. This means Vixens had 8 players available in an unbalanced squad – missing 3 of their most experienced players who had done nothing wrong. (Not left a bubble, gone somewhere that might have been COVID ridden, behaved improperly)It seems a bit rich to blame Vixens, when there was nothing preventing Fever travelling and allowing the fixture to continue – after all Vixens (& Magpies) have both moved home games within the past month to enable the fixture to continue.
It will be interesting to see what Fever do next week – & whether they are required to quarantine on return if they do travel.
That was a weird auto correct!!!
Welcome freonetball
There is an article on the ABC that whilst not supported by quotes states Vixens attempted to get replacement players but given they were in Victoria they were denied entry to WA. Article also states that the players who went to Byron went in accordance with the health advice at that time and did nothing wrong. Same article quotes Marinkovich saying the points should be Fever’s and if the game is rescheduled they need to ensure it’s at an appropriate time and player’s loads are managed. That’s a little rich seeing as the load management they deem appropriate for Vixens is to play with 8 players most of whom are rookies.
Overall the trip to Byron Bay may have lacked foresight. But if permission was granted then they haven’t done anything wrong. No other state has locked out entrants who have been in Byron Bay. Byron is a long long way from Bondi.
It’s completely unrealistic to expect any team to play with just 8 in their squad. It’s utterly ridiculous to lay all blame at the Vixens as Fever are doing.

I think it is really unfair to blame the Vixens club or the players for this situation. Byron Bay is 10 hours away from any Sydney hotspots. I live in Sydney and the restrictions have been confusing and rapidly changing over past couple of days. I have confidence that the Vixens players would have acted in accordance with the medical available at the time.
Fevers response is disappointing. I thought the teams would support each other a bit more in these unpredictable times. But whether it was in accordance with the health guidelines, I still think it was a silly decision by Vixens coach/management to allow players to go on this trip, while being in the hub. Understandably players may need some time out, but to go away on a trip under these circumstances 🤷♂️
I just feel like the Vixens decision making this season, has not been great. Starting from the beginning with their recruiting of Stanton and Berkmayer, instead of Samason. She went from TP, to a starting 7, back to TP, back to starting 7 etc. To now allowing players to take holiday trips, while being in the hub. I’m also going to add in there (without knowing any of the back story) they should have recruited Chelsea Pitman, just saying 😁
Whether Fever are in the right or wrong here, at the end of the day if those 3 players didn’t go on a holiday………..there would be no issues atm right?
Or would Vixens still be not allowed to come to Perth? The Fever have always been such an arrogant team. There shouldn’t even be games in Perth based on their government’s policies. The treatment of the Giants was obscene. I don’t blame the Vixens girls at all for going to Byron, it’s not like there were any restrictions at the time preventing that.
Also considering the Vixens and Magpies had to last minute move to QLD, to keep the competition running smoothly. It really baffles me that a little “holiday trip” was even on the cards.
Listened to an interview with Gaudion on abc. Apparently Vixens should have played with their 8 players plus two temporary players pulled from anywhere in Australia given that WA would not allow their TPs to play. Bit arrogant to believe you can select the opposition team.
Gaudion is requesting a forfeit and for Vixens to incur the cost of the other team. Who is covering the Vixens’ costs of leaving Victoria?
I request Gaudion to never commentate again. Can’t be Fever GM and a commentator.
Geez what is wrong with the head honchos at Fever? I can’t (can) believe Gaudion would also come out and say that crap. Agree, time for her to leave commentary and Stacey can leave Diamonds while we’re at it.
Are you sure it was Gaudion? Where was this interview? ABC where?
