Wow Ian? Am I sure it was Gaudion?? What are you suggesting?
I wouldn’t have posted and said it was Gaudion if it wasn’t.
Like I said. ABC.

God that interview sounds dirty. There’s no compassion or understanding from the Fever management team. The interview from Sue Gaudion make them sound money hungry.
Their media statement has deliberately used the word refusal to back their claims that Melbourne refused – under which rules, the Vixens would have to forfeit and incur the costs of the game. Just seems like bad sportsmanship for Fever to be asking the vixens to play with their 7/8 and scurry together the remaining players from around the country (bar VIC And NSW, where most of their TP’s would be). I don’t blame the vixens at all.
If the Fever really respected the spirit of the game, they would be playing in QLD this weekend.
Not withstanding any of the opinions of Fever or Vixens staff and players or the media, the SSN really need to come out and clarify what rules and protocols are in place for changes to scheduling due to Covid (e.g what timeframes are required for changes to travel plans, what costs are borne by clubs or the SSN).
The SSN need to releases a statement stating who made what decisions and when.
And anyone associated with Fever need to realise they are not doing themselves any favours by speaking out about their thoughts on this (i.e STFU)

I saw articles where Marinkovich said it should be a forfeit but I hadn’t seen anything about Gaudion.
Totally agree with what @nanator and @al_ex have said.
I cannot belive Gaudion’s audacity, and I agree she needs to go from commentary. For a while I’ve believed that she simply is unable to stay impartial, she’s too bias.
Also couldn’t dislike SM any more than I do right now. SM can’t be making statements like this lightly. She is the Australian coach and what she says reflects on the state of our competition, our netball, our sport.
Overall, I am utterly disgusted with the way Fever have gone about this on social media, their coaching staff’s statements, and their utter disregard for the sacrifices that other teams have constantly had to make in light of COVID situations. They could’ve easily gone to Queensland but acted selfishly wanting an easy win and the revenue from the home crowd (which I somewhat can sympathise with but still).
Vixens couldn’t have even filled their team with TPS, that wouldn’t have been an enjoyable game at all, even for Fever fans. Would’ve been a pummeling.
As an SSN volunteer in the pst, I have seen some of the BTS stuff and have only bad things to say about the attitude of Fever staff and coaches. Their reputation in this league is not a positive one and it reflects poorly.
Listening to that ABC interview it sounds as if the WA Govt had granted border exemptions to the Vixens and staff that had been in QLD for the last 10 days or so, but the three that had been to Byron Bay were not granted exemptions.
Also that this issue hasn’t blown up just today as Vixens travelling to WA earlier in the week was an option (but to what benefit? Would the BB3 still not have been allowed to travel?).
The SSN season must be hanging by a thread. If all teams end up in a hub again, the financial cost has to be draining.
Not to mention the players mental state.I hope that the players’ welfare and emotional well-being is being looked after. I know the Vixens were already working with the VIS in that regard but obviously things have gone up extra gears over the last few days. Hopefully all teams have access to similar resources and support as I wouldn’t want them to be relying on the league for that.
This will be doing huge damage in many ways to the SSN and netball at top level in Australia. Media loves to find out the dirt on anything and put in in their readers faces and ears. SSN needs to make a statement and tell the teams that all media comments come through them only.
Fevers finances must be super tight but imagine the cost to the likes of the Vixens and other teams who have had to relocate with accomodation, meals etc.Not sure if this helps the timeline, but the west Australian paper reports today that Vixens were advised to travel and find replacement players earlier in the week but didn’t/were unable to. Schmeetle I think you also heard this.
I take so much away from this on so many levels and supporting each side in different ways but I still stand by my comments (as a massive fever fan) that they should not have emailed each attendee/posted on social media that statement about “refusal”. Even if it was a straight-up refusal: don’t say it like that! It came across badly at a time when their image is more important than ever! I have contacted them and said a similar sentiment but I’m guessing, knowing fever, they’ll stick by their comments grr
I can NOT believe Fever are trying to say it should be a forfeit, if the tables were reversed they would NEVER play without 3 key players (or even one if it was Fowler, as let’s be honest they wouldn’t win a game without her – whoops sorry I just dropped down the Fever’s level of petty) 😆😂
Take a look at Fever’s Instagram comments on their latest post. 250 comments and I’d say at least 150 of them are telling the Fever off for their wording… not that they’ll retract it.
SSN needs to make a statement to take control and clarify the situation. Can’t sweep this under the rug, there’s been too many articles and posts.
There also need to be some protocols put in place for this stuff, can’t believe it’s so up in the air even after last season’s challenges.
It seems NA/SSN were using a mediation type approach to this. Wrong way to go. They’re supposed to be the ones in charge, not the clubs. You can’t just ask nicely will you do this pretty please, you have to lay down the law and say this is what’s going to happen. Now, one side or the other may have been upset with their decision, but that’s the way it goes. In Covid times, some times you have to make unpopular decisions.
