Nesian youve acknowledged just what she has done in her career, hardly a one time show pony thou?

What CBass was able to achieve in the past was stellar, but that was a couple of seasons ago and the game has evolved. In today’s game a shooter is expected to be more proficient from a little further out than standing right beside the post.
I honestly think she is struggling with her fitness levels as well.

@minkie I think she has always had tools in her bag that she could call on but injury and time have really limited her to the point where she can’t do too much, unfortunately.

I guess the Magic will be looking for a new GS. I see Jen O’Connel was back playing club so maybe she will end up there

I was always a big Cbass fan but when she moved to the Giants I realised she is very much a player that is lifted by those around her. Medhurst, Green, NVB, Langman, M. Browne all took her game to the next level with their own smarts.

When it has come time for her to be the experienced one bringing younger and less experienced players into the mix, she has failed. She should have been able to do that with Giants and Magic, and also with the Diamonds post Medhurst – she was the Captain after all.

It’s a sad way to finish for her because she was part of a phenomenal era for the Diamonds and she isn’t getting to finish on her own terms like all champions deserve.

Nicely said NB12 – CBass was phenomenal (and dare I say, unstoppable) in her prime. Unfortunately time and injuries are not on her side and I would rather see the shooting spot opened up in 2022 to allow a developing NZ shooter to come up the ranks (Tui, Williams, Malesala) or at least an older head to mentor the new ones through (would love to see Kate Grant more regularly).

IMO the coaches ,Julie F and Metcalfe, have played a big part in why she’s not performing her best. Obviously having her injuries hasn’t helped too.

Julie F killed her confidence. Her decision to constantly bench her, I believe would hurt any players confidence. This was the start of her downward spiral.

Metcalfe, if she had started the season with this current lineup, we could be having a very different discussion right now about CBass. I feel today’s starting 7 would have built over the season, and they would have had a lot more wins and maybe finals contenders 🤷‍♂️

                @Nesian
is she definitely not coming back next season?
If this is true, I agree Jen O’Connel would be a good pickup. Or I would like to see Bailey Mes head there and take on the GS position. Allow her to focus on her shooting.

CBass does not handle tough love and/or not being #1 very well.
Not what I would call an inspirational off-the-bench team player.

@worsie how would you know that?
Are you basing this off her season at the Giants?
From memory Giants won the games, where she was used for 60mins (or majority of court time).

I’m in no way defending her form this season. I feel her injuries has played a part. She has never been a JFR or Aiken, where they can pluck the ball from anywhere in the air. But she has had 2 terrible coaches, that didn’t have great game plans.

Do I think she should retire? YES
But I also think, with the right game plan, and if she fixed up her injuries………she could be a threat.

Magic have already tried the bringing on local talent/inexperienced shooters. They really haven’t got the time to go back to that if they want to attract a better grade of player. Look how Crampton jumped the Steel ship after years of wrong shooters. CBass for Magic could have been great but Kara rarely played, and defence was made up of 3 GK. The whole team needs a clear out and rebuild. If CBass isn’t staying then they need another experienced strike shooter and I’m not sure there is one available, so they may well need to import one. Either look to VNSL (Cardwell) or someone fed up of bench sitting in SSN (Proscovia). Getting Mes as the other shooting partner would also work.
