Sue has been a specialist coach for Fever for the last several years, whilst also commentating. She will probably be more removed from team tactics and strategies as GM than as a coach. She has managed to successfully commentate without crossing the various lines previously (and in fact often shows a lot less bias than others) – no reason to think that this will change.
It is interesting to see this quote from Marinkovich
“These actions, and their outcomes, are unacceptable. Those responsible for the actions that led to the breaches are no longer associated with West Coast Fever or with Netball WA in any way. We will not name and shame those responsible. To do so would not serve the best interests of our Club, our members and fans or the sport, and we stand by this decision”
It is of interest for the sport and fans, for building trust in the integrity of the highest competition in Australia. The regret for taking these actions seems to be mixed up in the discussion/ perception about the salary cap being an administrative detail that the clubs can work around. Would have been really interesting how the statements would have gone if Fever had won, using this scheme to go around the rules, which they totally intended to do. I do wonder about the governance of the club that is unable to describe how this happened, how the players were individually offered side conditions along with the contract that the coach and other senior staff did not know about. What has changed? How does the SNL hold credibility of a well governed competition after 2 breaches, this one ‘more serious’ than the 2019 Thunderbirds one?
It’s really bizarre.
There were a couple of people high up who suddenly left in about October last year. Now, it may not be them, but it seems rather suspicious, doesn’t it? If you were a prospective future employer, wouldn’t you like to know that someone you may be employing has just had to leave their job because they broke the rules?
It seems like they did a deal to try to sort of cover it up and make it seem not so serious. But it’s done the opposite. Because they won’t say who it was, it won’t go away.
And the implications on the integrity for the coach and players? where is their protection from being tarnished as they are actively implicated in this serious rort that has resulted in the competition body taking away their past achievements, and impacts the future season. it is so odd.

Has no other clubs shown interest in Wallam? Or she not interested in going anywhere else?
Tbirds and Magpies could do with her services. You could see her pushing for a starting 7 position. At Fever, I feel like she is waiting around for JFR to retire.I reckon that by the time Wallam’s contract with Rhinos is up JFR will just about be ready to retire or head back and play in Jamaica. Living away from her daughter must be tough.
Do we think this will mean that Wallam will only be available after her season in VItality League? What if fever need to travel with an extended squad again thanks to Covid? It would have ironically been her best opportunity to stay here in that case?
My understanding was that Wallam was injured? So even if Fever needed her early in the season, depending on the severity of her injury, she may not even be ready
I’m not really sure how the extended squad works, but remember Fever have Sasha Glasgow too so I’m assuming she would possibly play over Wallam (if she was there)
I’m pretty sure Wallam is expected to play towards the end of the VNSL but she won’t be back in Aus until end of June earliest anyway. Maybe it’s just so they (Fever) can keep a link with her for when/if they need her. But will also be good for her to be in a team environment during the VNSL off season.
Look, I assume this is all to try to keep Wallam happy and in their sights so she doesn’t go to another SSN team after her VNSL stint.
