As the Matildas capture the hearts and minds of Australians with their run at the FIFA Women's World Cup, netball can only dream of generating that kind of interest for its own major tournament, writes Brittany Carter. https://t.co/XJFlpEoK4Q

I think to some extent the Diamonds are a victim of their own success. The Australian public expect them to win every tournament. So when they do win, they don’t really get attention. Even if the public knew the Matildas were a lot stronger than the Socceroos, I doubt anyone really expected them to go deep. Add in the fact that Football has an enormous male fan base who have been ‘converted’ to women’s football that Netball doesn’t really have and it’s just impossible for Netball to compete. It’s the same reason why AFLW is now doing better than Netball even though the quality of skill and athlete is far far higher on the Netball court.
Have to say Australia really fell apart in their last 2 games. Sweden could have put 5 more goals on The Matilda’s.
And hopefully in 4 years time, a lot more female coaches will be in the top job. Very much a male dominated scene at the moment sadly.SPAIN ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS!!! ????????#BeyondGreatness | #FIFAWWC pic.twitter.com/x4liWtvgpN
