in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 11 #1374974
I wonder where any of them would go, if they did walk? Are there that many openings in other teams next year?
in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 11 #1374909Interesting statement: “Five players out of contract went to the board, the CEO and said if you want to keep us, this is what has to happen.”
Thoughts?
Is this true or mere speculation?
Who are the 5 on one year contracts? (I have read that Donnell Wallam is on a one year contract)in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 6 #1372479I thought I heard someone refer to Jenke as “stand-in defensive coach”. Which kind of makes sense, presumably Bulley is defensive coach (as well as head coach).
in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 5 #1371765As a Firebirds fan, that was painful to watch (actually went to bed at half time, I have never done that before ever)
And what’s going on with Tippah? She didn’t play like this last year for Thunderbirds did she? (I do not recall her contributing so few goals even in the first two games this year). Why on earth as a coach would you *not* be encouraging such a talented and accurate (usually) shooter such as her to actually… you know.. shoot!
in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 2 #1370212True enough.
As a Firebirds supporter I hope the strategy works for them. As a Firebirds supporter I have watched the strategy of shooting one pointers whilst their opposition shoots two pointers fail them ever since the inception of the 2 point shot.
in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 2 #1370186The Firebirds show a lot of promise, but they really need to take some damned 2 point shots. They only attempted 5 supershots all game?
If you only manage an 8 goal lead leading into supershot time and your opponents have excellent long range shooters, you are going to lose more often than not if for each 2 point goal they shoot, you only attempt “normal” goals.
What is even more puzzling to me is that this year the Firebirds themselves have two excellent long range shooters, both of whom were on court all game.
in reply to: 2022 SSN ROUND 5 #1340427Yeah it’s realty starting to get on my tits. Almost all of the Fox presenters are putting a “cliff” in their name!
It’s not that hard to say it right.
in reply to: 2022 SSN TIPPING COMP #1338560I’m in… Is there a wooden spoon prize? B-)
in reply to: SSN – Extra time in, bonus points out #1321697Rolling subs in, supershot in.
Bonus point I hated with a passion.
I do not care one way or the other regarding extra time, To me a draw is a valid result. My concern is how will extra time fit into Nine’s broadcast schedule?
Supershot, I hate. Any rule that allows a team to score less goals and still win, does not sit well with me.
Rolling Subs, I am fine with. THe “shoelace injury” timeout just to substitute players has no place in a professional sport.
in reply to: SSN moves to Foxtel/Kayo in 2022 #1318822I for one am happy with this. (Although it does mean I have to scrap plans to end my Foxtel subscription 😉 )
Finally I will be able to watch in HD! (In rural Qld the main 9 channel via Imparja is not HD! and the SD quality is actually terrible for a a fast moving sport)
The last time Foxtel had the sport the “product” was great.
And did I read correctly that there are ancillary programs planned? (like “The netball Show” type of thing)
9 did very little to promote or grow the reach of the game. I do not remember ever hearing the host of the Sunday Footy Show EVER saying, at the end of their show, “Stay tuned for the Netball, coming up next”. The most basic of promotion really.
in reply to: QUEENSLAND FIREBIRDS 2021 #1317687Well as follower of Firebirds media (well, social media and member emails) their media personnel have always been appallingly underwhelming and ill-planned.
(And no that is not just because I got banned from posting to their FB page! lol)
in reply to: QUEENSLAND FIREBIRDS 2021 #1317655Oh geez I have heard rumours / speculation that it’s Rob Wright!!! That would end it for me. Might have to become a Vixens fan… B-)
in reply to: Roselee Jencke farewells Firebirds #1314694Jinxibo & Fib, Thanks for the info re Beryl. I have not paid as much attention to my netball the last 2 years as I would like.
in reply to: Roselee Jencke farewells Firebirds #1314687I do not understand all this talk about supposed “favoritism” regarding Macy Gardner.
She has shown herself to be a very good young player contributing well to the team when she has taken the court. And.. she has not actually had very much court time this season.
As for Jemma MiMi and Beryl Friday; well Jemma (of whom I am quite a fan) started the season well but finished badly. She was definitely not starting 7 material in the backend of the season. I have no problem with Jenke’s decision, I do think all other teams maybe need to lift their game regarding inclusion. I also hope that Jemma came through all the furore surrounding that week well mentally and emotionally.
Beryl Friday; I have not listened to her interview, but as an observer and FB member/supporter, whilst she was a big favourite of us FB fans, whenever she did take the court (and she DID get game time) I found her performance to be underwhelming.
Can anyone tell us how she performed when she played in the UK? And is she still contracted there?

You hit the nail on the head …. speculation indeed, you surmise things weren’t great between Harten and Housby, plus Guthrie ,as a pom I’m pretty certain you are incorrect
Well… I would call it observation. If you go back a couple of seasons (which I think is the time frame the original poster was referring to), Harten and Houseby played together for the Roses as though they had just met for the first time in the Car Park on the way in to the match.
