Disappointed both Parementar and Proud don’t get a chance. I don’t think Moloney had a good season so I really have no idea how SM picked this mid-court.

Maryann I’ve totally forgotten about Tong recovering from her rib fracture! But yes, I feel like despite being short Tong can absolutely jump high enough to compete for ball. And agree with your point re Jury. I feel like she relies on her height and reach too much. If she can jump and with that reach of hers, she’ll be even better!

Instead of changing the shooters, I’d really like a change in the defence end. Both Jury and Burger look flat imo.

Toeava will just get monstered by the men just like how the roses did to her. The men and roses WD’s all have such long reach her vision will probably be blocked completely.

Now that Candappa is leaving wasps for storm maybe we might see Clarke move back to Wasps? I really hope not- In the few games I’ve seen them play they just didn’t seem to gel. I hope she stays at Rhinos.

I’d really like to see Tong out there. She might be shorter but she has the hops. I feel for Lokotui too- read an article stating that she was aiming for a debut in the black dress but I guess this isn’t happening. I think Jury was tired yesterday so perhaps Tong might bring some freshness.

Great start from Ferns. Wilson and Nweke really starting to build a nice combination and Crampton and Gordan are letting the ball go! Good to see both shooters not having the shooting yips today. I’m liking how Gordan and Kersten are making the men work the ball. Hope Ferns can keep up this intensity!

I really liked the work that Hume did yesterday- shooting wise her shots just weren’t hitting the ring but she did a great job in the playmaking aspect. Both her and Selby-Ricket had poor shooting percentages so I’d prefer Hume over Selby-Ricket because she did a better job feeding compared to Selby-Ricket.

I’d really like to see this line-up start this time:
    GS: Nweke
    GA: Metuarau
    WA: Crampton
    C: Kersten
    WD: Heffernan
    GD: Burger
    GK: Jury

This is a much better performance from Kersten, Nweke and Wilson.

For those that can’t watch because of the stream issues, Hume is actually doing a pretty good job in opening up space and playmaking. The men are double-teaming on Nweke and she has all the space she needs to drive in- just needs to sink those shots though. Selby-Ricket has come on and her shots aren’t going in either. The GA’s for the ferns really need to get their eye in!!

So many people here are defending Bassett, talking about her great game against the Tactix. Yes, it was a good performance from her but that was the only time she had a good game IMHO. You can blame the fact that there were no feeders that knew how to feed her other than Kara but even when Kara was there to feed her was she that great? Nah, I don’t think so.

The way she’s acting and talking right now really makes me feel like she feels that she is entitled to a contract and it has to be an SSN contract- No VNSL or ANZ contract. I don’t even know how she was included in the Diamonds squad and IMHO, Netball Australia felt that they had to include her into the squad. Bassett mentioned that she felt that “the only way players are going to get better is by being out there on court” but has she really improved over the years? All the teams have all learned how to counter her already. She needs to change up her game or else she isn’t going to improve.

I’ve never really liked her attitude and last year really showed why. Yes, she barely had any court time but so many other players also don’t have court time but are still there cheering their team on. For example, look at Lewis for Fever this year. Had limited court time this year but was always on the sideline with a smile, cheering her team on. Gooden is another one I could name- limited court time towards the latter end of the season but was always supporting her team. However, look at Bassett last year. I remember seeing her reading a book once. Yes, no one likes being on the bench but she could have at least cheered her team on instead of reading a book, almost acting like she’s not even part of the team.

Agreed al_ex. Bassett is far from when she was at her best and that was back in 2015. You can defend her and say that injury hindered her performance but let’s look at 2019. IMHO Watson was winning most of the battles between them. I would pick Garbin, Koenen, Dwyer and Glasgow over her. All offer something different and can change up their game compared to Bassett’s hold.

Agreed with you 100% enozlas. And re Cox would get affected by unlimited imports rule- I actually think Cox wouldn’t have trouble finding a contract. With the super-shot, Cox would probably shine with it. She’ll probably shoot from there even before the 5-minute mark. She is a long bomb expert. And I know I’ll probably get a lot of flack for saying this but I prefer Cox compared to Bassett.

I love the way Usoro-Brown plays, especially at GK. I’ve always felt that that was her best position- she sometimes doesn’t last full games out at GD so it’s great as I assume she’ll get the start at GK with Jenner at GD. Looking forward to seeing how they combine together!

The real issue here is about Super Netball’s new rules. Having super-shots and time-outs have just made the Diamonds standard drop. Players don’t even feel scared about having scores blowing out because they know that super-shots can save them all. And if something is not working, they just wait for the captain to call timeout and the coach just has to tell them what to do- this has cost the Diamonds to lose against the Ferns many times now. IMO if there was no super-shot then Bassett would still have gotten a contract.
