Thanks folks – we’ve seen the specialist and yes, we’re trying to figure out the sort of exercises he needs to start because there was already some shortening of the muscles on one side. We’ve got a very good relationship with our physio who plays AFL himself – we’ll definitely try to get onto it.

Sorry that your work has gone – it was such a great article too, and a lot of openness from Liz herself.

    WHAT THE ACTUAL F!!!

This is like when Australia was playing 7 a side women’s basketball and New Zealand was playing 9 a side. Except this time, the international game won’t be played under our version of the rules. We’re already hurting the Diamonds with the unlimited number of imports occupying key positions in lots of teams reducing our depth, and now we’re going to make them play under different rules?

Will be intersting to see if those imports continue to come back, because the SSN is no longer the premier netball league in the world.

They should watch both The Final Quarter and The Australian Dream, and then they’d have a much better understanding of the casual racism that exists here.

11th ACL in the Women’s AFL this season, and comp has about 8 weeks still to go.
It’s not a sport for the female body.

And yet netball is? I think it’s less about gender and more about the physical preparation required.

Wow – that says to me how much money Uber Eats have to spend on their advertising…

Although the forum categories do change order depending on which has had the most recent reply and then if you hover over the time in the “freshness” column, it tells you which topic in that category the person has replied to, and also if you scroll down the right hand side of the page, it has the last 5 “recent replies” and again if you hover over them you get an idea of what people are saying.

I replied to a couple of older articles, but while these things happened, the posts themselves didn’t appear when I went into the category – presumably because the posts were still in the order that they originally appeared in, which is now buried on a later page.

I suspect that means that no-one’s going to see those responses to those old threads, which makes resurrecting an older conversation harder to do. I suppose I could ask for notifications via email if anyone responds to those threads. Ah well.

Beautiful. But of the questions they asked themselves:

As days passed, the guilt began to creep in. Did we have Jacob and Milla too prematurely? Should we have had a different diet during pregnancy? Should we both be pursuing our careers (in different countries)? Should the kids have had a different diet? Did vaccinations cause this?

I hope they’ve definitively knocked that last one on the head, because all of the reputable science conclusively shows that vaccinations do NOT cause autism. People who say so are getting their info from people like footballer’s partners rather than scientists who have studied the issue.

Awesome article, but I do take exception to the bit where Joe says

Before Renae, wing defence was a position few wanted to play, and even fewer regarded as integral to success. Through a stubborn desire not to let her teammates down, Renae’s style of play forced opposition coaches to plan around her and strategically counter her influence.

She revolutionised the position. She played with steel and determination.

No. Just ‘no’. Wing Defence has ALWAYS been a key position and Australia have always been much better when they’ve respected that and picked genuine WDs like Peta Squire, rather than pushing Goal Defences out there outside of the circle. Nothing “revolutionary” about it in my opinion.

Thanks Ian – there was a window a couple of years ago where we might have gotten into a bit more when my then 10 yr old started playing in the local Saturday afternoon association with some friends from school and some of her friends. I umpired a few games and my wife coached the team in their 2nd season and they won the grand final, and we went to a Giants game or two at the ICC.

Unfortunately after the season end last year in Year 5 this friend stopped being a friend to my daughter: another girl in their friendship group influenced the others to eject my daughter from their circle. She had to make new friends and needless to say netball wasn’t on the agenda for this year. I’m really proud of the way my daughter handled herself throughout the experience after some initial mis-steps, I’m glad for the new friends she’s made at school and at church, and next year is high school and a new start. She’s already got to know some of the younger sisters of her older brother’s school friends and played soccer with them this year and had a really good time, so it looks like that’s going to be the sport she plays going forward.

Like I said, I haven’t been following things very closely, but just from a distance it seems like the Australians have forgotten how to play against the zone, so I guess NNZ’s decision to revert back to their own domestic comp has worked out really well for the Silver Ferns, while the number of imports in the ANZC has really helped lift the standard of players in the countries where those folks are from, including giving England the experience to go along with the belief to win the last Commonwealth Games gold medal.
