in reply to: 2023 Taini Jamison Trophy – NZ v England (Sep) #1365528
Credit to England this has shown how much depth they have. I don’t watch their league so wasn’t sure what to expect with their named line up but they showed they mean business. I’ve always thought SDL has been severely underrated and has been unlucky with missing selections. Did Hannah Joseph have a fluke game or has she always been this good?? Seems she would be the perfect change up from Metcalf when the roses need it.
I think NWC and now this has shown that as much as Tiana maybe look dominant in ANZP she is a step off the pace internationally. I also think she doesn’t have enough experience playing with a moving shooter so clogged a lot of the space on circle entry.
You need Eke in GA, the amount she does to bring the ball down and her movement around the circle opens it up. In GS it seems her strengths are wasted or at the least she needs a more dynamic GA to open things up. Would’ve liked to have seen what Walmsley can offer in Graces absence.Watson and Burger also need to be on together. Burger isn’t as effective when she’s at WD and Glasgow ran rings around Jury. I’ve also never understood Karaka as the go to defender, I think she’s a welcome change up but don’t think she’s consistently effective enough for a starting position
My starting line up for next game would be:
GS Walmsley
GA Eke
WA Souness (purely for pulse connection)
C Gordon
WD Heffernan
GD Burger
GK Watsonin reply to: 2023 WORLD CUP DAY 10 (FINALS DAY) #1364100I feel like as soon as I posted that Karaka came alive… I’ll gladly eat my words haha
in reply to: 2023 WORLD CUP DAY 10 (FINALS DAY) #1364098am I missing something with Karaka getting the bib over Burger? Burger is a ball magnet and so strong in attack.. I don’t understand Karaka being the preferential GD? I know Karin was in WD but now that they’ve shifted Heffernan back (which they should’ve tried yesterday) I’m baffled it’s Karaka ahead of Burger for GD?
in reply to: 2023 WORLD CUP DAY 4 #1363174It’s like DNT has a crystal ball or something I swear
in reply to: 2023 WORLD CUP DAY 4 #1363163Absolutely devastated for Grace! She deserved to have a good crack at this tournament.
Just a thought… whilst I know injuries are unpredictable I think this shows exactly why Toeva wasn’t selected, yes she feeds Grace the best of all but her versatility (both position and player connections) outside of that is not on the same level as the others selected. With no Grace and Peta in the team I think would’ve been a real hindrance whereas now they make the switch with the shooters and carry on with the best possible mid-court for all shooting combinations.
in reply to: 2023 WORLD CUP DAY 1 #1362767You’re an absolute gem, thanks for your help!
in reply to: 2023 WORLD CUP DAY 1 #1362765Glad it’s just as confusing to others.. Would be much simpler to all be in one place 😅
A vpn was my plan “A” but couldn’t seem to get one working 😞
I think I’ll just watch the free game on YouTube for now and then wait till day 4 onwards as it should all be on BBC iPlayer.. do you know if a subscription is required for that?
It appears free but again it’s a bit vague.in reply to: 2023 WORLD CUP DAY 1 #1362763UK based friends can someone please explain how I can watch these games live/on replay?
I’m originally from Aus and have no idea how all of these streaming platforms work 🫠
Sky sports says they’re playing every game live but I can’t seem to find them anywhere?? Do I need to pay for a subscription for something? Really trying to avoid that considering I knows I used to be able to watch them all free in Australia.
Any help greatly appreciated!!in reply to: 2023 SSN ROUND 8 #1358787Disappointing for many reasons Ian.
I’d suggest looking back upon this forum and maybe trying to find the root cause.
I used to thoroughly enjoy the healthy back and forth between posters on here but it seems now as soon as you have a differing opinion from one person in particular you get attacked for it and subsequently everything gets taken down…
I guess you’ve just lost another poster.
All the best.in reply to: 2023 SSN ROUND 8 #1358739Magpies are such an anomaly. For so many seasons they seem to consistently have so much talent all over the court but just can’t seem to fire all together at the same time. It must be so frustrating because I think the expectations on themselves would be so high.
in reply to: 2023 SSN ROUND 6 #1357948JR I totally agree! And that’s kinda my point.. they weren’t very clean or patient in attack and yet still got the win which is a great thing.
In recent years we would’ve lost that game by 10+ goals but as a team we stuck in the match and found a way to be on top at the final whistle.in reply to: 2023 SSN ROUND 6 #1357915As a Tbirds supporter aside from how good the finish was, the whole game the team kept in it and never really let the score blow out. The mental strength of the team seems to be in such a good space right now.
We even won with an attack line that I thought struggled to find Cardwell for a lot of the game, Bruce/Aryang footwork made it so hard for feeders to find the backspace for Cardwell which she’s really dominated the first few games with and yet we still found a way to post and to keep in it.
Will be such a confidence builder for the team so impressed with that.
in reply to: 2023 SSN ROUND 3 #1356503I’ve not seen Tbirds attack this composed and patient in years.
The defence was and always has been amazing, the difference in this game and this season it looks is that we can finally convert enough to make it count.Take a bow Garrett and Williams, both were phenomenal tonight.
And after about the 10 minute mark of the first quarter Cardwell completely nullified Dehaney.I called it in pre season that Dwan looks to finally have found the form we all knew she was capable of.
In saying all of this, lightning were abnormally messy in attack this game. Although I think they’ve always struggled against tbirds tonight was on another level and nothing like they’ve put out in the first few rounds. Tbirds made them pay almost every time.
Very surprising result.
in reply to: Firebirds part ways with Francis-Bayman #1355852Just me being nosey wondering if there’d been any more whispers about what went down with this??
in reply to: 2023 ANZP ROUND 1 #1355031What a game!
Ekenasio completely nullified Jury in that last half.
Edgecombe proving she has a lot of worth at WA and I think her and Wilbore will be able to share that role nicely.
Walmsley was outstanding! A bit quiet in the second half but more than held her own and very impressive in moments of chaos -
