Finally got around to watching the game. Wow the Aussies looked scrappy tonight. How many dropped balls or silly errors were there? I fear we lack composure and this has been a steady decline for a while.

I’m just not sold on SM as a game day coach.

Let’s hope Wallam is ready to step up because I think our World Cup chances rely on her… I can’t see any of the other shooters being a serious threat to the NZ/JAM defences.

Absolutely parmy needs to be given way more minutes, particularly in the next game I think. Let her grow and guide her through.
She wasn’t her usual impactful self but I still thought she was solid and showed moments of big potential given the occasion for her.

After Braz she’s gotta be the next best WD specialist in the country so now is a great opportunity to give her experience.

I agree Bruce is not a GD. I feel for Klau as she is heavily exposed when Bruce is in GD because she’s so loose.

Give Klau a go against Nweke with Aryang or RBD in front of her and I think you’ll see her have much more impact.

What a game by the ferns. Really asserted themselves across the whole court. Good to see Eke back and in form. Karaka too. Heffernan took Watson out of the game and Toeva had it on a string for 50 minutes.

Diamonds hopefully learn a lot from this. I just don’t think the Koenan/Wood combo is it for us. They’ve played together for years now and I just don’t think it’s ever going to be enough at an international level. Time to start Garbin or Wallam and see what can happen. Austin was good. Watson was quiet and Maloney just doesn’t cut it at international level as a C either.
Price whom I don’t normally rate was great for Australia and had good vision in the circle.

I just don’t see Taurua ever being out coached so I think NZ fans should be very excited for what’s to come for the ferns. Jury is still out on SM.

Is there any way to watch the replay in Australia without needing a VPN?

                Strong sides for the ferns!

Still confused by how solid Johnson seems to be in the side but other than that it all makes sense. I think Francis/crampton might be in trouble if souness/heffernan/Gordon continue the way they have been.

Excited for this. I think TN is pretty good at being responsive to the game in front of her which I think Obst/Tbirds have lacked so hopefully this will help them in those critical moments on game day!

I’m not sure it’s justified for people to be blasting jamaica for not playing Sterling and Fowler. Even if they didn’t have university… countries rest/rotate/trial players all the time in these sort of series what’s the big deal?
Fowler and Sterling would’ve played almost every minute of the SSN season then straight in to comm games where they played a lot of minutes as well. Player welfare and rest needs to also come in to it at some point.

The biggest difference between Klau and Bruce is her ability to stay in play to contest every loose ball. Bruce just burrowed under Fowler too much and got called for contact heaps whereas Klaus ability to stay in play is invaluable.

Great second half Australia, koenen came on and was solid and jamaica just couldn’t work out how to stop the Koenan/bueta combo quick enough

Klau absolutely showing her worth and that she needed to be brought in in the pool match. Not sure how much more she needs to do to earn a start in future?

Happy to say great changes by SM. I’d have kept Weston on but I’ll take it!

                            AUS:
Bueta was unstoppable last night but as we know Sterling can absolute shut her down and out and I back her to do it again tomorrow. Unless there are injuries as the rumors suspect SM must give Klau a go, Bruce has been an absolute mess the last two games with her attitude and is frazzled and throwing balls away. I suspect she will start Bruce but in that case start Aryang and give the known combo a chance to settle in and make an impact outside the circle. Our biggest concern is we actually do have depth across the court but a coach that doesn’t seem to know how to use it.

                            ENG:
Much better performance by the diamonds, but I do think the England team got a bit of a reality check last night. Lots of fire power in the shooting circle but nowhere near the skill or depth in midcourt or defence that is needed for them to be more successful. Who is Mentors replacement? EUB is not it and both would be near retirement. They lack a dominant C/WD, Clarke has always been a mainstay and she’s solid but she’s not a game-changer and she’s also near retirement. Malcolm needs to be developed as their WD and they need to find a C/WA backup asap for NWC.

                            NZ:
I think Taurua has done the best she can with the squad she’s got.
Unfortunately it seems too many of the players dominate against the NZ style (Souness, Nweke, Jury etc) but really struggle to translate that dominance to the national stage against other styles.
That’s the big difference between the players they had available and the caliber of Watson/Burger/Eke etc who weren’t available/fully fit.
The silver lining is you may very well have your next Laura Langman in Kate Heffernan who has been an absolute star for her debut tournament and will only continue to grow.
I’d be super excited for NWC with a backline of Watson/Burger/Heffernan.

                            JAM:
There’s something about this team and I think it’s theirs to lose at this point. Everyone focused heavily on the other three countries but Jamaica look the most collected as a unit that I’ve ever seen them and it’s paying off. Very little depth but a starting 7 you’d absolute back in for the game. I just can’t see Australia having the confidence in attack to play as freely as they did against the mentor/guscoth combo and it’ll work heavily in the sunshine girls favour.

As an Aussie I am more than ready for a Jaimaican gold medal, it’s time these tournaments were shaken up and less predictable and this Comm Games is hopefully just the start.

Will be interesting to see which of Aus/Jam can run out the gold medal match, both teams played essentially the same 7 in their semi’s and match against each other so will be some very tired bodies.

SM’s unwillingness to bench Bruce might be Australia’s undoing for the next few years…

England have always carried on a lot on court and show their emotions, I’m more disappointed the Aussies seem to be getting caught up in it.
