Regardless of how many imports we have in our comp.. if you are the captain and starting GS in the Australian side you should be able to walk in to any club of your choice and get on court. The fact that can’t happen mixed in with her comments regarding her leaving and other moments over the years is what makes me think there’s more to it off court than we know.

She’s definitely worth value I won’t disagree with that at all and definitely should be on court. I guess I was just looking at it from a different angle… I think this is a classic case of two sides to a story and I don’t think either party are particularly more guilty than the other.
Julie F has definitely made some questionable and poor coaching decisions as well. I think it was all just a recipe for disaster.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but my interpretation of a lot of what she said was that she didn’t get it her way so she was out?

“I came to the club, with the expectation that they wanted me to win a championship”
“….who is more of a traditional goal attack which suits my style of play better”

These are some very powerful words and also rather self-centred views. Netball is a team sport and it is about what is better for the team as a whole, not what suits her individual style of play. It is also heavily proven that players don’t win championships, teams do.

If you compare these words to those of Caitlin Thwaites when she reflects back on her time as a second-string goalie…
“Part of my role for the team is to push and put pressure on our number one shooter, so they have to lift their game. If they have to go to training and work harder, because I’m nipping at their heels and I’m also working harder, the team is better as a result and that is very positive.”

              Chalk and cheese!

I didn’t love what I saw of her there in the last few rounds to be honest, but I also put a bit of that down to not having a strong enough GA to work with.. she had Gooden and Glasgow and neither offer any movement or drive.
So very intriguing to see how she would go with a dynamic player in GA…

Okay first time posting here but as a Tbirds supporter here are my thoughts…

Pitman: One semi-decent season does not make up for 3 painfully bad ones. Yes this has been her best season yet but her standard over the last few years has been below par and I am overall relieved to see her moved on.

Glasgow: I am sad to see her leave however she is just not a GA. So with Potgeiter back there it’s not an entirely bad blow for the Tbirds. Glasgow has potential oozing out of her but she needs to play GS as she does not have the speed or agility to play GA.

Obst moving forward clearly wants to move Horjus in to the WA role so that leaves us needing to sign a GA to support potgieter. I don’t think Allen is up to it just yet however with Bueta coming back I think the Tbirds would be wise to chase after Dwan. Her and potgieter could be a fabulous combo and it fills the gap of Glasgow leaving and horjus moving across.

                  GS Potgeiter
                  GA Dwan
                  WA Horjus
                  C Nankivell

That’s an attacking line up I’d be happy to see develop over a season or two!

I’m admittedly not a fan of Bassett in the slightest however I do think a move to NZ may be very good for her as a player. Away from the limelight of being the best GS for AUS (albeit not this season) and the golden girl pedestal she’s sat on for a number of years now may reinvigorate her as a player. Similar to what it did for Ekenasio, Thwaites, JLP as a junior etc. They went to NZ and although JLP was very young so its hard to say, it’s safe to say Thwaites returned in better form than when she left and we all know how much of a gun Ekenasio turned in to… will be interesting to see how next year plays out.
