@museboy although in saying that, all the players that played that day were training partners and/or members of their Beko team, so were training with the Steel week in week out, and most weren’t unfamiliar with that level of play

@AllieC I always shudder when I see schools/rep teams (or even clubs with junior teams) with very light coloured uniforms (the bottom half at least) really not very well thought out!!

I think that’s awesome and should be implemented world wide!! I personally prefer to play in a skirt – no idea why – it’s really the only time in my life I wear a skirt, the two teams I’ve been in where I had to wear a dress I absolutely hated – I’m quite tall, but carry a bit’ve extra weight round the middle which dresses just cling to ‘shudders ‘ and I so agree that uniform rules need to be relaxed – one of the comps I played in recently even dictated that colour of underwear/socks had to be listed on entry form – as long as tops match – who gives a flying fluff what is underneath!!! jeepers in social summer league all that really matters is having the same colour bibs!!

@nate agree, although I have to say Nweke’s shot has changed a little since she’s been working with Noels this year – so hopefully that will keep improving – still so young – kinda like a baby giraffe learning how to use it’s long leavers!!!! and I really hope she doesn’t end up like Romelda!!

I also think Maia needs to work on hers – something has changed in the past year, she looks very stiff/awkward and it’s translating into not great shooting – not sure if it’s mental or working with a new body shape that she’s still getting used to

@maryann 100% if they’re selected as a shooter (whether it be GS or GA) they need to shoot (Which both Meels and Tiana do), that was one of the few things I liked about Maria – she got the ball, she turned, she shot (which has always been what I do playing GS for the better part of 30 years, had so many people over the years that would say I”m here I’m here pass it out etc who I would end up saying, you don’t need to tell me you’re there, I know you are I just got the ball from you, if I want to pass it out I will, but my job is to shoot so I don’t need you screaming at me while I’m doing that) if they get to a professional level they should be doing that. if they want to be a feeder they should play WA. I think one of the most common things I say to the TV when watching – is “shoot the f’n ball” – don’t piss ass round with it and lose it, you can shoot, so shoot – Maia & Aliyah are the two biggest ones which frustrate me with that – they both used to shoot from distance all the time, and now it’s like they prefer to keep their stats up (happenend to both Irene when she moved here and Cat Latu too) that’s one of Jo Hartens point of difference – is that she will still get the ball, turn, and shoot

(sorry for the rant – just had to get that out!! )

it’s interesting people always say that, and kinda agree the load should be shared, however they’re in GS for a reason – to shoot goals!! so maybe not just being totally reliant on the GS to get all the goals is a better way to put it. Yet CBass was constantly criticised this year (mainly by the commentators who had just finished criticising Mes for not putting up many shots) when who ever was on at GA for Magic put up a lot of shots.

if the team is losing ball by the GA always offloading or forcing the ball into the GS then yes there is an issue, but if they’re still winning with the GS doing most of the shooting – what’s the problem? (eg Fever/Mystics)

@museboy you could almost put Tuivaiti in there – but she was never really given the opportunities at SF level, but definitely excelled at league level, also Wendy Frew (but was often behind Langman) another one I was thinking of in Aus would be Teagan Phillip.

I mean it’s still a bloody good accomplishment being just below the very top – but just not quite there

@mcleod agree 100% regarding Toeava, but I think based on her ANZ performance (when really the only WD that shut her down was Savaiinaea) there would’ve been questions as to why she wasn’t (Even though the first time she was selected it also showed she just wasn’t at that level) – and had they been able to have their proper training caps prior to the England series I don’t think she would’ve made any of the match day 12’s but another player that is good at a regional level but just doesn’t quite make the mark on the international stage, actually the opposite of Poi – who by her standards had a sort’ve ordinary season but you know she’s going to shine in the black dress

I thought Jury played really well on Sunday night, one of the best games I’ve seen her play, yet last night I thought she was quite slow and flat footed – something the guys definitely exploited time and time again. so I am kind’ve hoping some of the ‘old guard’ are fit and healthy for the CWG – as I don’t think Sulu is the answer either (she really didn’t wow in the slightest against England) – Karaka can play all 3 defensive positions, as can Rore, and Johnson can play – well pretty much wherever you put her, and if Tong/Burley/Temu/Lokotui can also have blinder ANZ champs then it make for some very difficult decisions for Noels and her team

can NZ enter a second team? I think they’d have a shot at finish top 6 lol

actually a series with NZ/AUS/ENG top teams and A teams could be quite interesting – I don’t think any one else would have enough strength to field two strong teams (I would’ve suggested an U21 team but half our players last night would fit both lol) and set team lists so no chopping and changing between games. could be good prep before the next world cup – then you get to see some of the A team players up against top teams (for example – Nwweke – you never know if she’s up to it until you put them up against international defense – and at a world champs is a big ask for a young player)

just my morning musings before I get started on some work

@mcleod & @Maryann Lokotui is also a WD cover (along with Tong) so not bringing someone in to cover Sam’s injury isn’t an issue – I would’ve thought maybe Poi for the C aspect but as has been said time and time again through out the thread – no one is quite sure why she is so out’ve favour.

and I agree with Hume, she played well, and really her shooting wasn’t that much worse that TPSR who you called almost call a SF veteran now – the nerves were definitely there last night which is understandable (maybe being on with Maia would’ve helped with that?)

I’d love to see Tong get on tonight with Burger (I think Jury is way to slow at GD against the speed of the guys)

@mcleod I think if Poi stays out’ve favour – then a Winders/Heffernan/Saunders/Crampton midcourt could work

though if Gordon can play a more C/WA role for pulse this year then that might give her a good shot.

and I think Mes (along with TPSR) might be the unlucky one if Maia can keep improving at GA – would have a Nweke/Wilson/Ekenasio/Meterau shooting end

it’s quite nice that NZ is back at the stage of who to leave out
