@justanothernetballer I was about to post something similar, I think Fowler is an amazing player, but it seems to have had a real detrimental effect on the GA’s she plays with – along with those you named you could also add Nat Medhurst, and Te Paea Selby Rickett to the list

@WeWood – Saunders has spent most of the season playing WA (and bloody well I might add) and Kersten is definitely more WD like Winders, so is a tricky one maybe Gordon for part? but I think Guthrie would have it all over her – I hope over the course of the series we get to see Kate Heffernan at C against Guthrie.

I expect we’ll see a Wilson/TPSR starting line up, but with Noels – ya never know what she has up her sleeve

I actually thought McCollin was pretty good at the Steel – she played through an ankle injury, and pretty much had to hold together the shooting circle when both O’Connell, and Heffernan did their knees – hard to be a new comer in a team that doesn’t necessarily suit your style of play – and when you don’t know who your shooting partner is going to be week to week.

so she could be a good pick up for the Swifts where she has a good combo already with Wallace. alternatively it would be the ideal time for Swifts to bring in a young one – when they would be guaranteed to be on with either Wallace or Housby, and Hadley/Proud – with such a settled line up it would take a lot of pressure off to start with

I wouldn’t mind Dwan going to Lightning, Wood has been shaky on the shot for a few seasons, and ongoing injuries, so would be a handy person to have to cover both gs and ga, allowing Wood the slide across to WA – her feeding a Koenan/Dwan circle would be pretty to watch

Also no Khiarna Williams- a very odd selection in general

I can’t post links either but a copy and paste of the article

New Zealand Under 21 head coach Yvette McCausland-Durie has named a team of 12 players for 2021.

McCausland-Durie said the Emerging Talent Selection panel, which included Adrienne Morrin, Robin Manihera and Nicki Patterson, were excited about the performances of age-group players across the ANZ Premiership and the National Netball League (NNL).

“In these uncertain times, we as a group were really pleased to get a full round of NNL and the Premiership viewing under our belt to enable us to have full confidence in selecting this team. The New Zealand Under 21 team is an integral part of an emerging player’s pathway and we’re looking forward to seeing what this group can achieve.”

She said selections related directly to player performances throughout last year and the 2021 season and their ongoing work to achieve the fitness standard.

The team was balanced with four shooters, four midcourters and four defenders but McCausland-Durie said there was plenty of room for movement.

“At both the shooting and defensive ends we have selected players who can slide into the middies to add variation as needed,” she said.

NNZ also confirmed the management team to work alongside McCausland-Durie with Northern Mystics coach Helene Wilson as assistant coach, Jill Clapcott as manager, Corina Ngatuere as physiotherapist and Jade Shaw as analyst.

I think it could also be the lack of flights between NZ and AUS at the moment that may cause the biggest headache

WA Hunt (would’ve been a perfect fit for Magic!!)
                        C Souness
WD Gordon (though I find her much cleaner at WA/C)

and Lokotui as an impact WD?

Asher Grapes was the original – possibly the weakest in the mystics the year before (replacement for Mes) and also isn’t really strong enough to be starting WA, just like Kolose really wasn’t (I was impressed with TP Katie Te Ao when she came on a couple of times though) – – it seems a year of no beko/NNL did have a small effect on player development

I to am hoping they bring ACD back in Jinxibo – my mum heard/read somewhere that Magic were in talks to allow dispensation to have an 11th player named

I’d be all for Bailey playing WA (I actually think she would put Khiarna into some amazing space – and I’m glad she’s getting the chance to learn of another tall very mobile shooter), however that would leave no shooting back up – and even if you still counted Bailey as 3rd shooter, if she was to go there, there’d be no one who could just slot into WA.

though in saying that I’m actually really hoping Clare is training up as a WA

I mean I’m stoked that she is there – gives some leadership in the defense circle – but did they not learn from this season regarding a WA?? – maybe Kersten is going to play there – she seems the better option to Winders (tried and not overly great but even she would’ve been a stronger option there this year) not sure why else she would’ve moved up here to fight for the same positions as Sam as they do in the SF’s

@nakiboy80 wonder what Madi Browne will be up to, I imagine Rhinos has lost it’s appeal with no Donelle or Dan?? that would be a dynamite signing for Magic

@blondebomb I think after having such a blinder a few years ago and then getting demoted to sit on the bench behind Lenize the following year seemed to destroy her confidence, and then she did her ACL last year too, might just be taking a bit longer to rehab, I know Georgia managed a few games for the Blast this season, not sure if Jen did or not
