in reply to: 2022 SSN rumoured signings/speculation #1333888
must kinda suck for the (young) hopefuls… knowing that they’re possibly trying to scramble to find someone else!!
or they do have someone and they’re just waiting till the last moment to keep everyone speculating….
in reply to: Georgia Tong, the accidental Silver Fern #1333819she well deserves a starting spot – I’m still kinda hoping (which I know that won’t) that they drop Erana and pick up a WA!! as stated above she’s there for her height and her lean, neither of which she uses to overly great effect!!! (well she does on the odd occasion which always has the commentators singing her praises!!)
in reply to: Georgia Tong, the accidental Silver Fern #1333811and I wouldn’t be surprised if she had a better vertical jump than Jane too
I think her and Burger would be a pretty good combo – Burger is used to Jane hunting so just instinctively drops back – if she can prove herself at this level – and if Jury can keep improving, may that be Sulu’s comm games spot under threat??
bloody good early decision to move it out’ve Hamilton – I’m thinking with three new cases today – one at the hospital(unknown on arrival so staff exposure etc), and 2 outside the level 3 zone in Cambridge and Kawhia may mean level 3 goes on for longer than the 5 initial days!! (by no means taking away from anyone who has been in harsher lockdowns for ages – just frustrated – if people could follow the rules this wouldn’t keep happening)
but hey atleast we still have netball to watch!!
@Waylay the only reason I can think of is that she is stuck in Auckland (though I do think Lokotui is a future fern)
I think Poi with her ‘work ons’ is still a head and shoulders above Kersten – who no matter the work ons is not going to get better – I actually think she’s on the decline to where she was a few years ago
I hope Poi ends up playing with the mens team – let her go head to head with Kersten – that will show what a lot of people are already saying…
but with her not being in the squad – I really hope it gives Heffernan a chance for a good run – imagine both of them in a Ferns side for years to come – would cover off any opposition they came up against (I’m envisioning a Poi/Heffernan/Gordon/+1 mid court in the next few years and for a fair few to come after that)
they could probably add a few of the NZA players in – but the ones who would probably fit in nicely with them are probably in Auckland too (thinking Kate Burley/Elle Temu)
just heard on the radio news that the application to have the Auckland based Men’s players granted an exemption to travel to Wellington has been denied
in reply to: SOUTHERN STEEL 2022 #1333752oh that’s awesome, I did some rep selecting a few years ago in Hamilton when Ivari was first year in u15’s and she stood out in the midcourt big time, having played with Laura when she was much the same age(she was 13/14 playing U17’s – and went straight to u21’s the following year), I could see many similarities – so happy she has been picked up – also has the added bonus of being able to play GA (shooting wise I’d rate her above Pelasio) and physically she is very similar to Guthrie – so having one person who can cover GA-WD is great (it’s a pity Magic didn’t pick her up as a training partner – Steel – where people unwanted at other franchises move to and thrive!!)
in reply to: 2022 SSN rumoured signings/speculation #1333735just a couple of stats – with those signed already (still 2 to go for Firebirds)
Australian players contracted – 63 across the 8 teams
imports – 15 – shooters 8, defence 7 (I counted SFB as a defence not a midcourt)I also counted Shimmin as an Australian player as I’m not sure how she is viewed
interesting when you look at NZ who has 58 NZ players across 6 teams – so if that isn’t a good argument for extra aussie teams I don’t know what would be – or would that also just entice more imports? (not against imports taking aussie places myself being a kiwi lol but do think it has leveled the playing field a bit internationally)
in reply to: 2022 ANZ PREMIERSHIP #1333732@mcleod maybe a booking conflict? but I would’ve thought if that was the case they would play in Nelson which always has a great turn out (and who has no games this year  )
moved to Wellington, NZA & U21’s no longer involved – I think that was a bit’ve a waste with a lot of the top u21’s already being involved in the SF’s and NZA – and other’s over looked completely
@Maryann I’m in Ngaruawahia – so just north of Hamilton – I saw on the covid FB page earlier someone from Auckland bragging they’d spent last weekend down in Raglan – proudly unvaccinated etc etc – I really hope the powers that be are looking into it – as that very well could be who brought it down this way. But I think they should’ve included atleast Cambridge, Te Awamutu and even Morrinsville in level 3 – just with the amount of people that work/travel to and from Hamilton each day – frustrating that they haven’t been able to update the places of interest yet either
some people are shocking – the majority doing the right thing, and the small number that are just totally ruining it for everyone – the guy across the road has just gone out for the 8th time today (as far as I can tell he’s unemployed so no idea where he is going he does this most days not just during lockdown) the house next to him have had people coming and going right from the initial lockdown in August – including a fairly large kids birthday part in the last level 3 (with only 1 mask insight) :negative: :negative:
oh I would love to see it in Southland – you’d be guaranteed a sell out crowd, and if I remember correctly from last year, they can section off the stadium which would allow more people in even with restrictions
I saw an ad on TV this morning for it – so hopefully it is still going ahead.
Hamilton can never seem to draw very good crowds – so limited/no spectators wouldn’t make much difference and I think most of the players are based in Wellington at the moment anyway (just from seeing the odd IG post), so can’t see there being much of an issue with it moving – they should’ve all been getting prepared for it anyway, so a quick relocation yesterday shouldn’t’ve been an issue (personally I think it was stupid not having any new travel restrictions imposed – lots of people going away for school holidays – next minute it’s spread across the country again)
in reply to: 2022 SSN rumoured signings/speculation #1333534will probably gain a lot training/playing with Bruce as well
