Scratcher. Apologies I said I wouldn’t post again. However if you can state you stand by your observations, you have absolutely no empathy or understanding of emotional and mental well being, despite this being so prevalent in society. Astonishing in these times! WOW

Scratcher. I took great offence to your commentary on ALJ’s biscuit making prowess and instagram and hence her lack of focus on netball. And this doesn’t just apply to ALJ it applies to all SSN players.

Firstly I am guessing you don’t live on the Sunshine Coast and have probably never spoken to the girls in a SSN team. ALJ would earn less than $40,000 a year from the Lightning so, as all the other clubs do they promote the players working during non training time. They actively help them find work. In the case of ALJ an import to Lightning from WA, $40000 doesn’t go that far so they need that additional income. The clubs also promote the girls having outside interests and friendship groups outside of the team. Given the high pressure nature of elite sport, emotional and mental health is a critical focus for teams such as the Lightning. The highs and lows of wins and losses, finals or not finals, will I get on the court, will I perform etc take a significant toll on the athletes week in and week out. They need external focus for well being and the teams want this.

To suggest a player is not focused on her sport given the fact she makes cakes and cookies to supplement her Lightning income and puts this on instagram is, quite frankly way out of line and uninformed. Given the mental health issues our communities are currently dealing with I am surprised you could even make the comment. But maybe you didn’t think through what your comment was expressing.

My mother always told us kids “that if we didn’t have anything nice to say about someone then don’t say anything”. Reading my past posts it is clear I have not followed her advice but from a review of all posts it doesn’t appear anyone else does either. That is why the SSN teams suggest to the players not to read social media feeds as it can have a very negative effect on emotional and mental well being.

I have fallen into the Scoop trap and as such this will be my last post. I let my standards drop.

Jbss, a fan of Lightning correct and a new member to the forum and as it happened ALJ was topical the day I came on board. I believe all I am doing is expressing an opinion about a young player doing her best. You can choose to agree or disagree as I do. Valid criticism of a player is not an issue but be balanced. These players have all done extremely well to get a contract so lets try and respect that. Tully has favorites but is very negative and blunt on for example ALJ. As I said look at the stats.

Tully not sure what you are seeing when you are watching the netball but unless coaches put these kids on they won’t ever get to the level. All the games I’ve seen this year as a mad Lightning fan suggest ALJ can and does cut it. If you have time on your hands watch the replays and compare the stats ALJ vs PM quarter by quarter, you might get a surprise! At least get informed if you are going to bag someone.

Garrett is better at GK but based on your assessment still not up to SSN level as she rarely gets on.

Langman played WA this year and to be honest she can play any position in the centre court.

Disagree Tully. They had plenty of options but with the coach switching one WD for another when the feed to the shooters and the shooters weren’t performing was the problem. Lee-Jones can hold her own at GK and they could have rolled Phumza to GD, Karla to WD, Madi to C and Langman to WA. But did they NO. New coach had NO ideas.

I think Lee-Jones improved a lot in the past two years and was ready for more court time. You will never get to the level with 2 mins here and there. Sometimes coaches have to be brave and back the player in. We’ve seen that with other teams this year – Dwan, Horjus etc. Clearly Lightning coach is stuck in yesteryear!! Now they have a 37 year old goalie who is clearly going to play for ever. Shimmin over the hill! Dehaney tied to Vixens. Garrett nice girl but to slow for GD and not a GK.

I like the idea of ALJ back to shooter. Great thought.

Tully agree with you on Glasgow. A great talent and not sure why Thuderbirds would let her go. A great pick up for the next team she plays for. On ALJ I certainly don’t agree she is flat footed and slow. Have a look at the first Vixens game with Lightning and watch her cover Kumwenda in the circle. That’s not slow or flat footed. And the intercept on Fowler in the second match with Fever.

Agree montyb. Hopefully she will get a start on Fowler on the weekend. In there last meeting ALJ went on for the last quarter and held Fowler to less than 10 goals. Lowest goals scored by Fowler in a quarter all season. Fowler spent a lot of time out of the circle and ALJ got a screaming intercept!!

Sorry aqua301 ALJ a far better option than Garrett. Garrett always looks slow at GD and doesn’t now seem to play GK. Shame ALJ doesn’t get more court time as with what she does get she improves every time.
