in reply to: 2024 Fast5 Netball World Series #1381198
Is it just me or are Fast5 rules just dumb. 6pt shots, send offs every game for practically nothing, the winning by default, urgghhh just give me regular netball any day. I find that exciting enough, I don’t think it needs all these attempts to jazz it up. I’ll watch the final just because Australia are in it but then I’m done with Fast5. Am I just an old stick in the mud?
I’d like to see Wallan in for koenan. I just think Koenan is not in form. Wallam gives us the tall holding shooter and an element of unconventionality. Would have been good against England as they don’t have the height in defence.
Yes, would have liked to see Ervin given a chance but she’s got time. Why can’t england get a dress that fits them? Berri Neil looks like she’s wearing a Tshirt not a dress. If you can see your bike pants when dress is pulled all the way down it doesn’t fit you.
Well done Diamonds! Some great performances tonight. Interested to see the lineup for Con Cup. Will Stacey experiment or play her winning lineup?
I think the Jamaican’s massive improvement over the last few years shows what SSN can do for player development, even more so when you get to play in your international combos every week (eg Janelle/shanice, shamera/latty, potentially Eleanor/sasha next season). But as has been pointed out SSN would probably only want the 2 world class players NZ have (agree that was a stupid thing for the coach to say publicly), so that doesn’t really help lift the overall standard of the team. It’ll be great for those 2 players but we’ve seen what happens when you hang the hopes of the team on one person and they get injured. I like the idea of fielding one or two NZ teams in the SSN but don’t know commercially if that’d work for Netball Australia and it’s a long way off. Plus would that essentially mean NZ’s national team would be playing together every week in the SSN? That doesn’t seem fair.
Urgh! Not more imports please! I know it will be an unpopular opinion but I’d like to see an import limit of 2 per team and preferably not in the same third of the court like the UK has. Or at the very least we need a strong Australian national league sitting under the SSN. Otherwise Stacey’s trophy cabinet may not be full for long.
in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 12 #1375337Fever were lucky not to be beaten by the bottom of the ladder for the second week running…eek. Thought Williams should have been POTM.
in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 12 #1375334That’s what playing a player in their actual position can do. Well done Fran Williams!
in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 11 #1374724I think Fever have a defence problem. Dehaney has had one good game all season against the tbirds. She’s very inconsistent, which has been her problem her whole career. She doesn’t contest high balls, she just lets them go over her head. She’s flat-footed most of the time. She’s great at the lean over the shot but that’s about it. Fran Williams is great but she’s a GD. She’s too short to defend the tall holding shooters. So Fever have two great GDs. If only Ellis had hung around.
in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 8 #1373130That’s such an interesting question…and if she is invited does she have to accept or can she decline, leaving herself available for Jamaica once this year is up and she’s no longer an 11th player but a a contracted player (which surely she will be). I’m sure she’d rather play for Jamaica.
in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 8 #1373127Strange coaching decisions all weekend. Reynolds not putting Roo on for the super shot; Obst benching Aiken and Austin at times to leave two rookies in the circle, and very little minutes for Williams; Akle dropping Sam Wallace-Joseph for Whyte. I’m sure injuries played a part in those decisions but some of it was a head scratcher. Swifts are in a tough spot if one of their key imports/marquee players gets cut from the game day squad for a rookie.
in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 8 #1373126I agree @Flb re Jok. Everyone goes on about Tracey Neville’s nous as a coach but she nearly missed signing Jok and she’s been the star for them. Without her and the injuries to Cardwell they’d not have won a game. On a different note, why does Cardwell do all the talking in the huddles? Amy Parmenter is captain, let her speak.
in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 7 #1372805I was at the Fever game so this is based on feeling from watching not stats…ATN was having a hard time getting over the line for centre passes; Shanice had trouble seeing over Mannix arms and made a number of errors, though was keeping Fever in it with some beautiful super shot shooting; Browne came on for a small amount of time and didn’t seem her usual self; Jhaniele was giving stank eye to Ellis (but that seems to be her thing every week ????; Fever defence didn’t have anyone stand up and star like they have other weeks; mid-court struggled. Overall, not there best day but credit to Vixens, they had a great game plan and stuck to it.
in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 7 #1372662Concerning for Swifts that Wallace-Joseph is not 100%. Not a great night for Housby either.
in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 7 #1372638Great to see the Lightning young up and comers taking out POTM (Ervin this week and Mi Mi last week) over Diamonds players in the team. They’re obviously benefiting from being around them and it’s great for the future of the club.
in reply to: 2024 SSN ROUND 6 #1372356Donelle on the bench! I don’t care how bad a day she is having, she’s still miles better than Moore or Dwan. Dwan has not impressed this season. A player of Wallam’s quality should not be hard to feed. The Mavs have this. I know it’s been said before but the fact that Jok nearly didn’t play SSN is mind blowing. She is there star at the moment.
