I know England had some sloppy passes over defenders in the first half but I feel they cleaned up their game as time
Went on. Australia started off being a bit more careful but in the third quarter especially, they looked like they weren’t treasuring possession against a strong surge from england. They just have to be able to weather that storm. I feel like Brazill coming off left a lack of hands-over pressure and took away some fear of release. I think with Brazill and Hadley back on and together in the mid court we might see a different game tomorrow…

On the other hand, I’m loving the different shooter combos. I’m wondering if we might see a set starting seven coming through before CwG but with a plan to do a total shooter switch halfway through as a game tactic. I loved the switch at half time in the england game for example… just throws something different at an opposition rather than just swapping out a single player as an impact player

Despite organisers’ best attempts, I reckon we will see some training partners and wider squad members being elevated this series. Pitman may well step in. She has the history, they could do with a WA specialist of her experience and it could be a little boost to the team to have a familiar face back in after the loss of Harten?

I’m not even a big Proud fan but I also agree she’s been overlooked quite a few times now when it could be seen as “her time”
They’ve gone with people with experience though I think to control that mid court? And let Maloney to have that Watson Maloney combo on hand

I remember when they talked about her navicular injury they were talking about a “year” out of the game rather than a “season”. I wondered if there was anything in that wording. I guess no return in Jan but hopefully she surprises us (in a healthy and not forced way!)

Interesting point made by a fever fan on socials today. Pointed out that fever had had to play with borrowed training partners the year before in the Queensland hub. Beryl Friday was one! But I remember Marinkovich though, saying she had been to the local comp (below state league) and had spotted a player she liked the look of her and she actually ended up having court time! It wasn’t unheard of to ask Vixens to do this in 2021 therefore, is what the fan was saying and I had never thought of it this way (I was just excited to see Beryl again!)

Is there any news on Maweni, Bassett, Wallam, McCollin, am I forgetting anyone else?

I’m very interested in exactly what knee surgery CBass had then. There aren’t many off-season fixups (that players have still been playing on) that would require a lengthy rehab or an uncertain one. Most top level athletes across all codes have some sort of “cleanup” job done on the off season (approx 2/3-3/4 of most AFL teams!)it’s just not spoken about as much… If it’s not an ACL, her recovery wouldn’t be cloudy and she wouldn’t be a poor prospect based on that. I think the above posters are correct in saying it’s a number of reasons like poorer feeding to her in NZ by way of other player injuries and also the super shot here in SSN.

Remind me, is it just this one position left to be filled from all of SSN?

I hear you when you say that Byrne was the lure for Hinchliffe, I really do, but surely her sister being in the squad would have been a bigger party of it? I guess she now hopes that Byrne names Maddie as a TP…

Gwalk 11 I wondered that too. Perhaps they have a sharp import up their sleeve though? Dehaney would have been a peeeeerfect fit! And it would have left Shimmin the starting GK bib I feel she deserves (with Hinchliffe pushing in from the side as she recovers…)

I’m also worried about Wallam. She’s such an exciting talent. Not super young, so now is her time to make a big push for a starting spot. She did miss her family and it was hard with Covid however, so maybe a training partner with a hope of entering a squad during injury was enough of a lure? I could have really enjoyed her at lightning or giants as a change-up to a moving circle. An exciting and unusual tall holding player.

I think Moore would be a great swap-in for Hinchliffe. Their game actually reminds me of each other.

It confuses me why Garbin let herself end up at pies too. When you sign, are you privy to other signings? So would she know Nelson was signing on again for example? Or can teams be cagey about that?

The West Australian (our newspaper over here) has just reported Rudi Ellis set to sign two year deal with fever. Someone said it above too. They reported the fowler deal days before Fever announced it officially so could be hot off the press…

Anyone know why Liz Watson is quarantining in Perth?
