in reply to: 2023 QUAD SERIES (Jan) – SA/Aus/NZ/Eng #1353358
Yes – Kersten makes sense as a defensive C when paired with the very-much attacking WA of Toeava. Souness/Toeava may be too similar to work consistently, especially on defence.
I think this is how the team is shaping so far…
Nweke GS
Wilson GS/GA
Ekenasio GA/GS
Selby-Rickitt GA/GS
Toeava WA
Crampton WA
Souness C/WA
Heffernan WD/C
Jury GK
Karaka GD/GK
Burger WD/GD
Watson GKI’d be tempted to swap Crampton for Gordon as Gordon is a good utility player for tournaments.
in reply to: 2022 Constellation Cup (Oct) #1351429A lot of pressure on Wallam to be the saviour when she debuts next series, as the current Aussie shooters won’t win gold.
I liked the speed the Ferns were playing with – reminded me of when the Ferns played at their best under Ruth Aitken. It was also pleasing to see Wilson come on and introduce a moving circle. Karaka was outstanding. It’s amazing how much better when players (Wilson, MRB, SF) are played in their best positions! Noeline showing she is learning lessons for trying to be too clever in the CWGs.
Jamaica did well considering for six quarters, then ran out of puff for the last two.
in reply to: 2022 Commonwealth Games – Day 7 (Aug 4) #1348825I would have put on the Sulu/Phoenix backline at half time, while TPSR is clearly the better GA but she doesn’t take her feet to the ball, which I think would be gobbled up by the Jamaica defence.
in reply to: 2022 Commonwealth Games – Day 7 (Aug 4) #1348758Also I think Bowring’s end is the scoring end
in reply to: 2022 Commonwealth Games – Day 7 (Aug 4) #1348681Also, how many goals did Bueta shoot in the last quarter?
in reply to: 2022 Commonwealth Games – Day 7 (Aug 4) #1348680What a fantastic win for Jamaica! The way Sterling shut down Bueta in the last quarter was phenomenal. But have they played their final? The Ferns would probably fancy their chances against Jamaica rather than a wounded Australia.
For Australia, the loss isn’t so bad as these final pool games don’t really mean anything. But the last quarter collapse would be the most concerning…
in reply to: 2022 Commonwealth Games – Day 7 (Aug 4) #1348575I think Kayla at GD is a hopeful fancy – if Noeline was serious, she would have put her at GD for the odd quarter in the pool blowouts.
I think she will start with:
Nweke
Selby-Rickitt, then sub in Wilson
Crampton
Souness
Heffernan
Karaka
Juryin reply to: 2022 Commonwealth Games – Day 7 (Aug 4) #1348570I think the Ferns are a 10 goal side better than they were at the last CWGs and Noeline will get the most out of this team. However, I think they are missing too much firepower and will still finish 4th, although there won’t be the shame that there was last time.
I’m tipping England to pick up the bronze over New Zealand, while Australia will pip Jamaica for gold.
in reply to: 2022 Commonwealth Games – Day 2 (Jul 30) #1348028Jamaica won 68-49
Agree, and also think they are missing one star defender – the defenders they have would be bench players on other teams.
Magic’s team announced:
Ameliaranne Ekenasio
Bailey Mes
Ivana Rowland
Claire Kersten
Charlotte Elley
Georgie Edgecombe
Simmon Wilbore
Oceane Maihi
Erena Mikaere
Georgia Tongin reply to: NZ Comm Games Team #1346377Still think this team is a lot more versatile swapping Saunders for Gordon.
in reply to: NZ Comm Games Team #1346376The video was reassuring to show there was some method to the madness. Jury at WD being the most interesting curve ball, with Souness flagged as a great change up at C.
Are the Ferns three deep in every position?
GS: Nweke/Wilson/Mes/TPSR
GA: Mes/TPSR/Wilson
WA: Crampton/Saunders/Souness/Mes
C: Saunders/Souness/Heffernan
WD: Heffernan/Johnson/Saunders?/Jury?
GD: Karaka/Johnson/Jury/Fitzpatrick
GK: Jury/Fitzpatrick/Karaka -
