England supporters should be absolutely wrapt with their performance! I love watching Quashie – has the makings of a classic GK in that she reads the play well and has deft footwork. Also only two penalties in the last game! I think she’s the type of GK that matches up well against a player like Wilson, so unsure how she would go against Nweke or Mes. The English shooters are all so calm and accurate, which has been a weakness for them until the Harten/Housby combination. But the midcourt is where they excelled, with Malcolm feeding excellently but also applying amazing defensive pressure upcourt meaning the Ferns were often more hesitant on transition ball than their own centre passes. Seems to be a well coached side and you can’t automatically assume some SSN players will regain their starting spots. Also big ups to the quality of the England system and the VSL.

Like a previous poster said, this series was about the Ferns adjusting to body marking which they’re unused to in the ANZP. That said, it was clear after the first game that speed is the best way to combat this, and the Ferns only did this in the last game. Good to finally get there I guess! Amazing how the game opened up for the Ferns in the third game when DNT instructed attackers to swing the ball across the goal circle to open up the space. Wilson has cemented herself as the starting GS, mostly shooting on the first catch in the circle, and her shot chart in insane. I think Kersten has snatched the starting C bib, while Jury has cemented her place in the side. It’s clear GD will be a problem area for the next few months. Other than that, it’s good to see the improvement each game and hopefully good learning for the next Constellation Cup.

    Thank you.

Not sure about Te-Amo – she’s a handy bench player but surely there’s another young gun who could use the court time? Although I guess you don’t want to rush them too early.

Lightning very lucky to make the top 2 – they should have been playing in last week’s elimination final and lost to the Swifts.

The ANZP will be a great place to rebuild confidence as the umpires “protect” shooters more compared to the Aus comp. With this team, I would put the Magic in my top 3. Still waiting for the Pulse!

She may also want to play for NZ after the stand-down period ends, which would be after the next WYC I imagine? Similar to Latu.

The more time goes on, the more unlikely I think CBass comes to NZ. NA will be pulling out all of the stops to ensure the national captain is playing in the “world’s best competition”.

Putting aside the shooting, what is the starting midcourt and defence end?

    GS
    GA
    Kara
    Winders
    ?
    Mikaere
    Faka

Tong will need to learn GD/WD to get on court. Fowler would’ve be really handy in this lineup.

Why does it feel like all these shooting rules are targeting Aiken? ;-)

Wow. Not doubting your sources but I still can’t believe it!

It appears Dunkley has been the better WA, so Mi Mi should only get on court if she’s earnt her place like anyone else. My biggest issue with this is the focus on Mi Mi and Jencke – Mi Mi has such a big weight on her shoulders that she shouldn’t have to bear alone, while Jencke is the only SSN coach that actually has a FN player in their squad! The question should be put to other coaches/systems as to why there aren’t more FN players – it’s unfair to place all the pressure on one person.

Considering the Federal Government bailed out Netball Australia recently (due to profits from the Nine deal being much less than expected), unfortunately I don’t think this will happen anytime soon.

One rumour is that CBass might be heading to NZ…

While I agree with your premise Ian, I would add Potgeiter to the list.

I reckon all ANZP teams should allow one import (unrestricited) and one citizen/Ferns-ineligible player. There are many players who may not make the Ferns; so if they choose to represent another Pacific country after time, it shouldn’t jeopardize their ANZP contracts.

If the Magic are better (through an import shooter), that is good for the Magic and good for the ANZP. We have enough GS stocks for the moment – GA is where we need more depth.
