in reply to: 2024 SUNCORP SUPER NETBALL #1369371
Agree.
It’s unfortunate, but these are the standards all athletes are held to and netball players are no different. I am sure she will receive the right coaching, make a statement in line with the values of the organisation and league and learn from this.
in reply to: 2024 Team Girls Cup #1369180Has anyone ever seen Jok play at GK?
in reply to: 2024 Team Girls Cup #1369047Shearer looking like a great (tall) young talent.
The best thing about TGC is seeing the training partners get a run!
in reply to: 2024 SUNCORP SUPER NETBALL #1368910Firebirds don’t look like a happy team on court either, especially Wallam.
They look happy as a unit on socials but it’s not transferring to their match play.
in reply to: 2024 SSN SIGNING AND TEAM NEWS #1367491There is a difference between a signature and an autograph. I’d dare say *most* celebrities and athletes wouldn’t be giving out their signature when they sign memorabilia for their fans, but their autograph, yes.
in reply to: 2024 SSN SIGNING AND TEAM NEWS #1367387And just on the 11th player – I believe there will be restrictions around SSN experience and that they can’t be an import. It is being used as a development pathway/opportunity for NA, which is fantastic.
in reply to: Silver Ferns Squad for 2023/24 #1367314Aside from her obvious coaching skills (which you acknowledge)… the reason could be that she is available and has the inside scoop on Housby, Garbin, Hadley, Klau – she knows them inside and out and I wonder if this is a quick chance for DNT to tap into that?
It’s also the NZ midcourt that is an area that is still a work in progress and that is a real strength of Akle’s.

in reply to: ANPA / NA negotiations break down #1367160I think you may need to do some more research before making comments like that about KHW.
She worked for the Adelaide crows for much of her senior playing career and has very good insight into sports management and the rights of players. My understanding is she was a big advocate for establishing a proper players union for netball so the players were protected for things like injuries and lost time due to the sport, let alone getting them some form of income.
It was around 2004 when the players association as we know it was forme and Liz Ellis met with Bill Shorten and he played a huge role in establishing what there is now and KHW brought her past experience with the crows into the mix. Liz Ellis was actually threatened by NA that should she proceed with what was happening at the time, she would be stripped or her captaincy. You can see why NA wouldn’t want someone like KHW around if she was trying to enact this sort of change to BENEFIT THE PLAYERS.
I may have some of those details a little wrong (it was a while ago after all!) but I think it’s important that any information that paints past players negatively when they are simply
committed to their legacy and leaving the game in a better place than it was when they were playing, is accurate and mot simply he said/she said depending on what you think of the matter. NA has a long history of mismanagement and poor decision making and it has really caught up with them in the past few years.in reply to: ANPA / NA negotiations break down #1367113Gosh – I jumped the gun when I said this was an excellent offer. 11% rise to the minimum wage is not how NA presented it in their release, or I misread it.
It is correct that netball is not a wealthy sport but people need to keep in mind these athletes will need a career and a job when they are no longer playing. The salaries they are on now is not enough to be setting them up for later down the track so they need every opportunity they can to get ahead in the now. If revenue sharing is something that will help that in the now, then I’m all for it.
in reply to: ANPA / NA negotiations break down #1367094Excellent offer.
in reply to: 2023 Australian Netball Awards #1367023Difficult for Koenen in a team that struggled. My next pick would be Cardwell but she also suffered from some patchy form in some games, or poor decision making.
I don’t feel Wallam was the best GS of the competition but I can see how she would have got the votes for this team.
in reply to: 2023 Australian Netball Awards #1367019Fowler actually didn’t have a great year. She was solid of course but some poor decision making in the closing minutes of games cost fever those close games in 2023. That would have meant she wouldn’t have got the points she has in the past.
in reply to: 2024 SSN SIGNING AND TEAM NEWS #1366992Congratulations to Verity.
I think the Cransberg sisters together are great options and they are the future. If they were seeking more GA cover, they could go back to Cosh but I think it’s better to look to the future.
If ATN could get her shooting to come good she would be such an asset to Fever and Australia, I wonder if that is in their plans?
in reply to: 2023 Fast 5 Netball World Series #1366841Ervin has impressed in this tournament. As she grows her agility and positioning she will be a force. Reminds me a lot of Susan Fuhrmann.
in reply to: 2023 Test Series – Aus v SA (Oct) #1366687Now that I think about it, I think it was smart of SM not to run Dwyer and Wallam together. She clearly sees them as in direct competition with each other for that final spot so she wants to see what works best independently of each other. And Wallam is streets ahead at this stage.
