in reply to: Australian Development Squad 2020/21 #1314524
Jovic missed a couple of games with concussion, and rotated on/off lots before the double Browne injuries. other than that every game.
I guess someone had to miss out!
in reply to: Australian Development Squad 2020/21 #1314516Although Jovic had a fantastic rookie year, she will need to back this up next year as a second year player that everyone has had a chance to look at and then will be deserving of inclusion in one of the squads.
Note that everyone else is at least a 2nd year player (even if they first got SSN court time mid way though season 2019), so not only “broke through” but also backed it up. Dwan is the exception – both based on performance demanding it and because of the thin shooting stocks.
I imagine these selections – like for Diamonds – are based on strict guidelines, monitored over a 3 year period.
You can hardly call Manua, Poolman, Scherian and to a lesser extent Stanton “development” options. All except Stanton have been in & now dropped out of Diamonds & Stanton probably had insufficient court time (or form) to warrant selection.
Congratulations to all selected!

in reply to: MELBOURNE VIXENS 2020 #1313580TB unless CBass is interested in playing GA I can’t see Vixens being interested – why would they want her – to sit on the bench behind MJ??
in reply to: MELBOURNE VIXENS 2020 #1313573Congratulations to both on incredible careers with huge successes.
I half expected that this was Phillip’s last season, but thought Thwaites would go one or two more. However, this is the big chance for the Vixens to stamp their authority on the Final series and finish of the year with a big win for both players!!
As to replacements….. as Tully said they need to be GA first as MJ will be the GS. So not CBass or Stanton as they are really GS. I’d be surprised if Hodges was considered ahead of the talent which has leap frogged her. There must be a reason none of the NZ teams have re-signed her and Tbirds aren’t interested, which is a shame as she is clearly too good to “just” be playing SA premier league. It will be interesting to see, however I’d have thought just about every possible shooter would love to be coached by Simone & Sharelle!
in reply to: Liz Ellis: The Mi Mi debacle can’t happen again #1313420I’m also a bit surprised that there is SO much coverage of this, given that last year MiMi was also the face of indigenous round and then even more embarrassingly not even included in the 10.
I get the angst about the under-representation, but at least the Firebirds currently have an indigenous player unlike everyone else. Why are more questions not being asked of the other franchises about their pathways and efforts And support to increase diversity From grassroots to elite level?
in reply to: Caitlin Bassett #1313385NetballCrazy1 – Bassett was not in the 12 because of a knee injury sustained at training on Thursday.
But I agree she was not a good look – as has frequently been the case whilst on the bench this season.in reply to: 2020 SSN ROUND 13 – VIXENS v FIREBIRDS #1312847Jovic played state basketball as a junior – hard to do both.
in reply to: 2020 SSN ROUND 13 – VIXENS v FIREBIRDS #1312799Watson still out – not named on the bench, Honey starting for Vixens
Dunkley starting again for Firebirds.in reply to: 2020 SSN ROUND 12 – MAGPIES v VIXENS #1312102For a first year player, Jovic has been a revelation! She would have been expecting to get a few minutes here and there & has become a linch pin in their mid court.

5 on the app and 3 on 9 is NOT half and half
But I’d expect all finals to be on 9 which will sort out the numbers ?

in reply to: GIANTS NETBALL 2020 #1311413Part of the issue is that CBass has never “come off the bench” well – hence poor Caity Thwaites who should have been starting GS for most of the last cycle being a perennial bench sitter with a few minutes here and there – when her performances and combinations with the potential GAs and mid-courters being at least equal to CBass and providing more flexibility . (Please come out of retirement until Bueta returns).
As someone in the twilight of her career CBass would have plenty to offer in the training environment & the real issue For Diamonds is succession planning which is something that Alexander maybe should have done more of in this area – Austin is obviously the anointed “young” shooter, but the only one, with Wood & Philip both also being in the twilight of their careers. Marinkovich will have to fast track some of the teenagers who have broken through this year – Horjus, Dwan, Allen – as well as the early 20’s generation who have been around for a couple of years – ATN, Ryde spring to mind.
As far as Giants goes – Harten & CBass was NEVER going to work – both are shooters who like to dominate & have the game plan centred on them – well into the 2nd season together they “click” for a couple of minutes & then one or the other forgets the plan and they end up tripping over one another, clogging the circle and become ineffective.in reply to: 2020 SSN ROUND 10 – VIXENS v FEVER #1311049Great debut from Smith – she had a real impact in the second half
