in reply to: 2023 SSN ROUND 11 #1360058
Are Fever pretenders? They seem to only perform against the bottom sides, even though their losses have been by small margins, they have the most losses against all the other top 4 sides, unable to win against any of them since round 4. Vixens will join them if they lose to Swifts tomorrow, but at least they have been beating teams around them recently.
Top 4 teams playing each other:
Thunderbirds 3 wins 1 loss and 1 draw
Swifts 2 wins 1 loss and 1 draw
Vixens 2 wins and 3 losses
Fever 2 wins and 4 lossesFever

Cassidy, Garrett, Glasgow, Lewis, and Moore. I assume we are just waiting on announcements for them.
in reply to: SSN 2021 signings/rumours #1315914I am sorry if my comments caused you offence, they were not intended to. sometimes writing a comment does not adequately convey a sentiment, and I guess this is what occurred. I stand by my observations.
in reply to: 2020 SUNCORP SUPER NETBALL #1315849I dont think the supershot was the reason people were engaged in the SSN this year. Covid lockdown has been a factor, only elite women’s sport readily accessible, and the product itself of course. Best game of the year by far the GF and supershot did not make it so. But the spinners are spinning so expect the supershot to stay.
in reply to: SSN 2021 signings/rumours #1315738I am also a big ALJ fan, and have watched her over many years. Unfortunately Tully is right, she has never really made her mark at GK, despite years of development and transformation from GS. Garrett and Hinchliffe were preferred to her at U21 Aussie level, she barely got on court in 2 years with Fever, and her cameos were less than impressive. At Lightning she has been the same. We all rave about the intercept she took v Fever, but I dont think there were too many other gains to her name across 4 years, compare her to the other tall Defender in the league Rudy Ellis, who has sat on the bench for many games this year, but has had impact in almost all the games she was given an opportunity.
I do not want to sound like I am bagging ALJ, I genuinely like her, and feel she is the victim of being forced from the position she would probably have thrived in (GS). It is not up to SSN teams to develop players, the league should focus on ready to play at the top level in the world, and tweak them to their needs.
ALJ needs to go back to ANL and play GS, or even club level…gain her confidence, be redeveloped and with her height should get the opportunity down the track, she is only 23.
I also question her focus, her instagram is full of her cake and biscuit making prowess, good on her for having a life outside netball, however, it shows me where her priorities are.
Hope I am proven wrong and an SSN team pick her up and she gets opportunities and blows the competition away…Regrettably I cannot see it.in reply to: SSN 2021 signings/rumours #1315539Shimmin’s instagram makes it sound like she is staying is SA.

in reply to: SSN 2021 signings/rumours #1315383I fear that Hodges will not get the chance she deserves in Australia, not sure if she will be picked up by anyone in SSN. She was a favorite of Dan Ryan, preferred to Glasgow, but it seems that Tania Obst has not been a fan of hers, preferring Glasgow in the U/21 national team and not really giving Hodges a go at it as Thunderbirds coach. Now it seems Horjus has trumped both Hodges and Glasgow.
in reply to: 2020 WA Netball League #1315111Magnificent effort by Western Roar winning their 3rd 20s premiership in a row. Coached by Karen Turnbull, who is a superstar coach of young players. She has the following recent record from the West Australian Netball League
2012 coach of 18s Sharks runners up
2013 coach of 18s Sharks premiers
2014 coach of 18s Sharks premiers
2015 coach of Reserves Sharks premiers (coached WA 17s team at national championships)
2016 coach of Reserves Sharks (part season only) premiers (coached WA 17s team at national championships)
2017 coach of 18s Lions premiers
2018 coach of 20s Roar premiers
2019 coach of 20s Roar premiers
2020 coach of 20s Roar premiersCurrent SSN players who have been coached by Karen: Sophie Garbin, Olivia Lewis, and Sunday Aryang.
Rarely do coaches receive the same accolades as players, but Karen Turnbull certainly deserves some recognition.

MVP Mannixin reply to: WEST COAST FEVER 2020 #1315000Wow JR, do you discount the changes that Sunday Aryang, Emma Cosh, and Olivia Lewis have brought to the club? None of who were team members in 2017. I think the growth of that team has been huge, and the vibe seems different than it did in the past. Get over Nat Medhurst, it happened, move on.
in reply to: MELBOURNE VIXENS 2020 #1314852Challenged like no other netball team in 2020? Please.
in reply to: WEST COAST FEVER 2020 #1314806Will Kaylia be at Fever in 2021? If not, I suggest that Glasgow would be an ideal replacement.
in reply to: SSN 2021 signings/rumours #1314787Not sure how accurate the list is as I am pretty sure Eagland is out of contract with Fever at the end of this year, recall that all Fever players except Anstiss, Bruce, Fowler and Teague Neeld were contracted til end of 2020…..I could be wrong, but dont think so.

in reply to: 2020 SSN PRELIMINARY FINAL – LIGHTNING v FEVER #1314671Five Thoughts about today’s game
1. The best 2 teams have made it to the Grand Final
2. So good to have training partners. Emma Cosh and Sunday Aryang players of the past 2 matches
3. Bruce and Francis have the physicality to disrupt Thwaites, Kumwenda and Wood….Though might need to watch those late hits
4. Fever need to stop allowing teams back into games, too far in front to be seriously headed today, but they need to shut down attacks
5.ATN needs to pick up her accuracy from 50% if they want to win next week…Lucky Fever have Fowler.- This reply was modified 4 years, 3 months ago by scratcher.
The game that stands out for me was the last one v Fever where they needed to win to have any chance of finals. They were winning until Lewis came on in GK and Stanton in GA. Lewis had Harten’s measure so it would have been the ideal time to bring Bass on to provide extra height…Never happened, Giants lost and kissed their chance of finals goodbye…talk about cut off your nose to spite your face.
