in reply to: Australian Development Squad 2020/21 #1314553
Initially I thought that the reason 14 were picked was to allow match play, however there is only 1 – GS (Glasgow) and 2 – GAs (ATN and Dwan). I worry about our tall shooting talent across the whole league and would love to see Lee Jones redeveloped in the role, she was a very good junior GS. It is a pity but I do not think that Gooden and Ryde will develop further. I guess the same could be said for up and coming tall mobile GKs. It is a shame O’Shannassy has had Glandular fever, and wonder if she will return, but there is plenty of mid size talent coming through within that position I particulary like Hinchliffe and Lewis , and Garrett has shown glimpses of her potential.
in reply to: Australian Development Squad 2020/21 #1314539I am overall happy with the squad, but wonder how many of them can potentially take the next step and become part of the Diamonds squad in the future. A lot of them are presently bench impact players at best and cant see many of them being in the starting 7 of their teams in the foreseeable future.

in reply to: Australian Diamonds Squad 2020/21 #1314360Very little to chose from Netballcrazy, I cant think who else could be put in the team, as most the other ‘young’ ones in the Diamonds squad are 23 or over on 1/10/20, …who would you pick?
in reply to: 2 POINT SHOT! #1314339It is so very obvious looking at the stats just how much Fever rely on Fowler. It confirms that they have made a conscious choice to use Fowler no matter what and neglect the super shot as a match winning strategy. Interesting they have leaked so many also, Bruce is tremendous down back, but plays more like a mid courter at the back of the court and would rather take a speccy intercept than shut down the shooter.
in reply to: SSN 2021 signings/rumours #13143362020 would have been so very different with a 10 player game day roster. We may not have seen the likes of Horjus, Aryang, Dwan, Allen, Smith, or Fraser to name a few. What has been shown is that despite our teams having so many International players, there are some exciting Australian youngsters coming through. I am a bit concerned about our tall GS stocks however, most of those within the league are imports. I think we may see Donelle Wallam enter the stage soon, though she is not so young. Plenty of people do not regard ALJ as a defender, but we should remember that she was always a tall holding shooter till Netball Australia tried to change her as they felt Emma Ryde was a better fit. I think Lighting, or anyone should switch her back.
in reply to: Australian Diamonds Squad 2020/21 #1314327Based on the 2020 SSN season, I have chosen an Australian under 23 team (age as of 1/10/20) …
GS – Sasha Glasgow – Thunderbirds
GA- Tippah Dwan – Firebirds
WA – Tayla Fraser – Swifts
C – Maisie Nankevill – Thunderbirds
WD – Sunday Aryang – Fever
GD – Kim Jenner (c)- Firebirds
GK – Tara Hinchliffe – FirebirdsSubs
Georgie Horjus – Thunderbirds
Allie Smith – Vixens
Olivia Lewis – Fever(Hard to find a well performed tall GS to back Glasgow up, but Horjus deserves a spot in the team)
in reply to: SSN 2021 signings/rumours #1314321Signings will reflect the format of 2021 game, ie 12 / 10 person roster and supershot. If no supershot, I would not be surprised to see players like Gooden, Allen, Dwyer and Leatherbarrow be training partners at best. I suspect a 10 person roster til at least 2022 so might not see as many changes as everyone thinks. I think most of the action will occur at the end of next season when all contracts start again. However Horjus should get a contract now as well as Aryang and Dwan who was demoted to being a squad member this year.
