in reply to: 2025 ANZ PREMIERSHIP #1378261
Agree with you @McLeod. Both the Pulse and Tactix defence pushed Nweke. I can’t wait to see how missing goals under the post or flinging ball out of the court goes for her in the SSN. I really hope she gets the challenge she thinks she needs over there.
@silverferns1 – You’ve said alot of naive stuff before. Calling the Silver Ferns defence fourth-rate is right up there and pretty gross.- This reply was modified 1 month ago by Silvero20.
in reply to: Debbie Fuller reappointed as SF Assistant Coach #1377409Yuss queen @Nesian.
Agree that we need fitness standards, but I don’t think Noeline is seeing beyond that.
I’d love/hate to know how much this extravaganza of re-hiring the exact same people cost. Especially when Hotts quotes the strengths of Debbie’s application included her alignment with the (high performance) strategic priorities – which she probably helped write!
There’s some massive cognitive biases amongst us too. The Noel/Deb combo win/loss combo isn’t as amazing as our WC-winning-by-1-goal pride would have us believe. Ignoring that result (or fluke, as I’ve heard some describe it), our record vs the big 4 is underwhelming.
The reign of Noeline would surely go down as the most expensive, for the least successful returns.
@silverferns1 – Huge difference between Head Coach and Assistant Coach. Wilson would be utterly disinterested in an Assistant role.
in reply to: 2024 ANZP ROUND 15 #1376813Some interesting comments in here.
1. The ball into circle rates for Tactix was dismal last night. Well below their standards. They were losing ball before shot selection was even an option. How’s a GS gonna shoot goals with balls they aren’t getting?
2. Would Bird have made a difference? Jackson has historically had a field-day with Bird. There’s nothing to suggest last night would’ve been any different.
3. If anything, replacing Dunn with Bird would’ve been a momentary or slight solution. That’s a single player change. Tactix have never played a Pulse team that included Salmon, Walmsley, Metuarau, Kersten and Gordon, all at the same time. They’d seen bits of those combinations, but not the full line-up. There is no comparison of “oh but she’s being x all season for Tactix, why change now?”
Cos it’s a different Pulse team – and it was *those* match-ups vs those players that the game was being won and lost in. Not with Dunn/Bird. Changing a single player wouldn’t have been the fix to offset the damage that was being caused everywhere else.
in reply to: 2024 ANZP ROUND 13 #1375991@silverferns1 Straight to the point, you say? Grace Nweke has the greatest core and one of the better vertical leaps in the game but she can’t actually shoot. Teams know that. All she has is her jump, and now that she knows for certain that her knees are vulnerable she’s even more defensive about her landing space. If teams are contesting with her at the jump, and consequently her landing space, like Taneisha did, then she gets sulky.
She needs to look at herself instead of accusing players of dangerous play. What’s she gonna cry about vs Pulse and Tactix? The Diamonds, Roses and Sunshine Girls?
My point is their media interviews. If players are coming out of the changing room or (in Phoenix’s case) off the court that hot with emotion, imagine their heat of the moment words to each other and the culture within. For years Sam Winders fronted interviews for a losing team. More recently, Kate Heffernan and Maia Wilson. They’ve never sh*t on a player/s or umpire.
I’m not saying we should be “ladylike”, I’m saying there’s intelligence in how players reflect their frustration. Mystics are showing us what’s what in their headspace and it ain’t pretty.
Some of us like a full package team.
– Great style of netball that wins
– Relatable and intelligent role modelsFor me, that is not the 2024 Mystics.

in reply to: 2024 ANZP ROUND 13 #1375925@Paul2020 there is something in the water at Mystics HQ. Graces’ halftime interview over the weekend came across as bratty and spoilt. She should be censored.
Mystics need to pick up media training again.
Very cool opportunity for the Players. I wouldn’t begrudge any for taking a shot in the SSN if someone knocked on their door.
But is this really DNT’s big plan? To farm that development out?
Call me a cynic, but she’s had 6-7 years to develop her “world class” Players (What a dumb thing to publicly say by the way. No wonder team morale was/is questionable.)
Arguably she inherited a “world class” foundation when she started, in the WYC cohort. Compared to past coaching setups, NNZ has given DNT et al unprecedented access, resources, investment & funding. For… ? Yes, some ANZ franchises have been ineffective in developing Players – but that’s an enduring fact not isolated to NZ.
If this does happen, and from a Players perspective I hope it does, and it “works”, then it does show that SSN is the best development competition in the world. Because they achieved in 1-2 years what DNT+NNZ couldn’t in their 6-7 years.
But NNZ might want to get a hurry on, because the few open spots on the 2025 SSN registers are filling up fast.
in reply to: 2021 Cadbury Netball Series – NZ v Eng (Sept) #1333284@nanator – agree, outcoached 100%.
in reply to: 2021 Cadbury Netball Series – NZ v Eng (Sept) #1333282Waylay – Jury not the answer at GK? Seriously? 3 gains and 7 deflections is a decent effort. Maia was monstered mate. Check your glasses.
in reply to: 2021 ANZP ROUND 1 #1321998What sort of judicial response is that @AndrewKennedy?
– “Baited the whole game”: At that point of the game, Mason had only been on for all of 7mins. Piss poor excuse and, quite frankly, a cop out.
– “Pork chop”, “clown”: What are those terms? Not very descriptive. If you’re relying on your single piece of evidence, that Mason was deliberately contacting, then you should know that for the time Mason played GK vs to the time that Harrison played GK, their per quarter infringements were the same. Which is to say – they were equal pork chops and equal clowns. Compare that to when Mason is at GD and Harrison is at GK, Harrison is penalised also 3x as much (per quarter). So who is the bigger pork chop?
– I’m glad you don’t coach. You’d be awful.
