in reply to: 2024 Team Girls Cup #1369173
My key takeaways from the weekend:
Swifts can never let Housby go, they’ll be lost without her
Vixens have invested well in their young midcourt. I was worried how Mundy and Walters would cope without a more experienced head around them, but they sure proved me wrong.
Firebirds should not let Veve off the court. She very calmly did her job at all times and worked extremely hard all game.
Lightning – haven’t gelled yet and I couldn’t quite put my finger on where it is falling away. Did like seeing Batcheldor back on court.
Fever actually looked better today in the first quarter when Wilkinson was on for Fowler. Wilkinson did quite reasonable over the course of the weekend I thought.
Giants – pleased to see Dwyer take more of a leadership role in the circle. And I take my hat off to Ward- just phenomenal, especially today.
Thunderbirds have done well to fill the Cardwell gap. Sterling and Wilson worked well together as always.
Mavericks defensive end is a miss for me (even before Moore went down). I don’t know if it’s because I’m biased (I have never been impressed by Jenner), but it just wasn’t intimidating for the opposition.
I know others will disagree, but that was what I was thinking from the sidelines.
in reply to: 2025 NS Super Netball Fantasy Proposal #1369108I’m on board
in reply to: ANPA / NA negotiations break down #1367165Do we have any details on what the deal is yet?
in reply to: ANPA / NA negotiations break down #1367105The 11% is over 3 years, so roughly 3-4% per year. Inflation atm is hovering around 5%. That means in real terms they’re actually taking a pay cut if they take the deal. That should not be on.
My union has recently agreed to a similar deal to avoid the publicity and it sucks. Since when did we allow big corporations to run the entire pretty much everything, with the rest of us pandering to their every whim.
in reply to: 2023 Fast 5 Netball World Series #1366882I think Australia showed that their game plan stands up in both forms of the game. I also agree that Australian defence are now better prepared at defending the 2 and 3 point shots as a result of the rule changes here.
Honestly, it feels like they can never win. The supershot is introduced and people denigrate it because it’s not in the spirit of the game. Then the players learn how to use it, go to Fast5 and are told they are boring. Go figure.
in reply to: 2023 Test Series – Aus v SA (Oct) #1366538Always love listening to Norma Plummer!
in reply to: 2023 Test Series – Aus v SA (Oct) #1366520I’ve been quite impressed with Price in that first half, especially in her attacking movement. Turnovers are a bit high, but I think that’s new combinations still working at being solidified.
I think we’ll see Wallam at some point this half.
in reply to: 2023 Test Series – Aus v SA (Oct) #1366511I’m pretty happy with that diamonds starting 7. Gives players who’ve had limited court time the opportunity to build into the game and work on combinations.
in reply to: 2023 Constellation Cup (Oct) #1366355A game between Aus and NZ that we haven’t seen in awhile – great viewing. I think Austin should have been subbed off, even if it’s just for a few minutes to allow her to get some feedback and look at the game. It would have given the added bonus of allowing Dwyer some minutes at this level. I think she could be ready – but we don’t know because we haven’t really seen it.
Should be a cracking game on Monday – pity it’s on during the middle of the work day so I’ll miss half of it!
in reply to: 2023 Constellation Cup (Oct) #1366321If NZ convert those defensive tips Aus are in trouble. Good to see quite a high standard and tight quarter.
in reply to: 2023 Constellation Cup (Oct) #1366316I’m very surprised that Aus hasn’t changed their starting 7. I thought Garbin may be given a run.
I thought Burger had earned the start for NZ. Not surprised to see Nweke start, she gave the team such confidence last game and they need a good start today.
in reply to: 2023 Men’s Test Series – Aus v NZ #1366189This was a great game, very tight at times. Good to see Brodie Roberts recover from a shaky start.
in reply to: 2024 SSN SIGNING AND TEAM NEWS #1366021Thunderbirds have the best GK in the world IMO, and one of the top GD/WDs in Wilson as well. I don’t think it’s that they can’t “recruit anyone good” I think it’s that the players have achieved the pinnacle, so they want a new challenge. I had similar thoughts when heaps of the Swift’s team left when SSN started (after the back to back GF appearances), but realised they just needed something new and challenging.
The proposed Thunderbirds team doesn’t sound too shabby really. I don’t think they’re title contenders, but I think they’ll be quite competitive.
in reply to: 2023 Men’s Test Series – Aus v NZ #1364437I hope they broadcast this on Fox/Kayo
in reply to: Silver Ferns WC squad predictions #1364198I think one of the things clearly missing for NZ was a lack of ability to adjust to new opposition. At the beginning of the WC the Aussie girls were saying “they were sick of playing each other” (and they had only had a few weeks together). The NZ girls only play each other most of the time, so they’re not playing different styles enough. I think this was the main reason Aus had slow starts (taking the time to adjust to styles) in the group games.
Time for the NZ governing body looking so insular and allow players to play elsewhere or let more international players in IMO.
