Having just watched the Nz/aussie game and Nz/uganda game today (which Nz were lucky to win IMO) there just seems to be a bit of the ‘mongrel’ missing in the Silver Ferns. They don’t seem that hungry for the win. Whereas Aussie are always hungry for the win. Players like Laura langman, ekensio, sharelle McMahon , back in the day, had this relentless hunger to win ball but I don’t see that in this ferns squad at the mo. However, am looking forward to the eng/NZ game next Saturday
in reply to: 2023 Constellation Cup (Oct) #1366452I am happy the ferns won the 4th game but gosh it was painful watching the mid court trying to get the ball down to the goal third. The diamonds did it a whole lot easier. I am not sure what/where the problem is exactly. Is is inexperience with ‘young players’ who’d is mentioned a lot and is true or ? Maybe toeava would bring a bit of fresh air into the stagnant play that seems to occur. Even coming out for the centre pass, either there was no one or else 4 options all bunching up close. Looking forward to the January games !!
in reply to: 2023 Taini Jamison Trophy – NZ v England (Sep) #1365568@Silverferns1 – Yes please! MRB made a difference when she came on and ekenasio is the only shooter actually keen to turn and shoot instead of passing it in and out of the circle . I agree with whoever posted that the NZ game is old and has not kept
Up with the international evolution of netball . I wouldn’t have thought that previously but after watching the World Cup and the game the other night, I do think so. Other countries have moved, adapted and evolved but we don’t seem to have as we are getting outplayed again and again.- This reply was modified 6 months ago by sue.
in reply to: 2023 WORLD CUP DAY 10 (FINALS DAY) #1364179I can’t wait for the next episode of Inside Netball either! Will be very interesting to hear the comments.
I don’t think Kate Heffernan was mid-courter of the tournament but she is young will continue to grow.
NZ needs to have players playing in the Suncorp, look how much England and Jamaica have improved. We would be cutting off our nose to spite our face to just be ok with sitting back and playing in the NZ comp. Pretty sure most Nz fans don’t want to keep seeing Nz at 4th in the world endlessly .
Will be interesting to hear feedback and reflections from Netball NZ after this. It’s been great having so much netball to watch, just a shame on how NZ finished up in the endin reply to: Women’s Soccer World Cup #1364178Watching the Sweden and USA game. Honestly the Swedish goal keeper is definitely the MVP and is the only player keeping them in contention against the USA.
in reply to: Bailey Mes to retire from all netball #1359595Gosh I wasn’t expecting that, I had her in the World Cup squad! Good for her that she’s retiring on her own terms, but she will be missed .very fit, court smart and didn’t engage the umpires in her play. And showed great character in how she worked her way back from injury. Happy life after netball Bailey!
in reply to: 2023 ANZP ROUND 5 #1356689@mcleod.< I agree, I thought the umpiring was poor .from where I was sitting I could see Walmsley get whacked in the face a few times with elbows and her hand. I thought that the replacement player who came did a better job standing up to Mikaere and should have been left on longer, let Walkley have a bit of time out to regroup.
in reply to: 2023 ANZP ROUND 5 #1356540So annoying to see the pulse play the ball around to run down the clock then miss the actual goal shot which have made them even instead if losing.may have gone into extra time which would have been fun….
in reply to: 2023 ANZP ROUND 4 #1356022Maybe Kate burley as a future Silver Fern? She seems to have the hunting ball instinct
in reply to: 2023 ANZP ROUND 4 #1356015Watching the steel vs magic game from yesterday, I think that the fact is that steel is a young team with mainly young players, some of who will be future Silver Ferns but aren’t yet. Except for Sam winders there are no other ferns past or current as far as I can see. Whereas the other sides all have 1 or more ferns I think, is that correct?
in reply to: 2022 Constellation Cup (Oct) #1351411Gosh what a disappointing game to watch. The better team won tonight. The ferns looking flat from the start with no clear leaders to spark a fight back . Shows how much we miss Jane Watson and ekenasio as they are well able to do that …
I think it’s too late for the kiwi’s now , such a big gap in the score and jamacia are not making many errors
Nz having trouble in the attack, mid court and defence. Mid court seem to be lacking fire and are bunching up , which was what happened against England also.
in reply to: 2022 Commonwealth Games – Day 4 (Aug 1) #1348342I agree with ‘more improvement would be the doctors order’!
Watching the Nz game delay only now , I have some trepidation about our game against England 🙁
Nz seems to be lacking energy or vibrancy I think. Hope there is still some cunning tactics to be used against England or else I fear we will be getting bronze ….The umpires microphone’s were quite loud , I suppose so all the players knew what the calls were but a bit overpowering
