Tactixin reply to: 2024 Team Girls Cup #1369189Temu’s partner is with the Tigers and she moved to Aus to be closer to him. A quick Google search shows he’s not doing too badly for himself salary wise. Whereas Crampton and her partner ended up in Sydney unexpectedly when his New York rugby team folded. I don’t think Fuatai is connected with any Super Rugby franchises so Crampton may be more inclined to chase a playing contract anywhere?
Agree, if both players were to get regular game time it would be great. Winders strikes me as someone who will really grow from her regular exposure to this intensity of netball.
in reply to: 2024 Team Girls Cup #1369175Re training partners, I did catch in the game Crampton played, Gaudion and Cox said if there was an injury in another team Gina could be picked up. However I imagine unlike the COVID-affected seasons you couldn’t play for multiple teams – i.e if Crampton were to receive an SOS she then couldn’t turn out for the Giants later in the season.
in reply to: 2024 Team Girls Cup #1369116Lauren Moore taken off with a knee injury. Screaming in pain. Bugger!
in reply to: 2024 Team Girls Cup #1369113Tuned into TGC from NZ this afternoon – first time using Netball Pass, how good – and was scratching my head as to the Kiwi commentator for the first 5 minutes before I clicked it was Rore.
Her Instagram tells me she’s now living in Australia, wonder if she will be a regular fixture in Fox’s netball coverage this season or just popping in for TGC.
in reply to: 2024 ANZ PREMIERSHIP #1369106Echo you @museboy. Think it will be a battle of the top 3 – Mystics, Pulse and Tactix and then the bottom 3 – Magic, Stars and Steel. Boring!
in reply to: 2024 ANZ PREMIERSHIP #1368902Another strong outing by Jess Allan. She may snatch that starting GA bib and have TPSR and Dunn sharing GS by season’s end.
in reply to: 2024 ANZ PREMIERSHIP #1368880Agree with other comments. I’m enjoying seeing the ANZP teams play the super shot. They’re going to the post versus dicking around to inch closer. The most impressive for me was Walmsley! She was nailing the 2s from the bit of the Pulse vs Firebirds game I saw.
Mightily impressed with Jess Allan at the Tactix. I think MDH will have no hesitation to bring Allan on if TPSR and Dunn get too static. From what I’ve seen Allan has speed to burn and is happy to go to the post. A great change-up in that shooting circle for the Tactix.
The midcourt for the Tactix is much more settled with Pedersen coming back into the side as well.
in reply to: 2024 SSN SIGNING AND TEAM NEWS #1368123Hume confirmed as a Swifts training partner in an interview between Mark Stafford and Yvonne Willering – Ian has posted the link in the Nations Cup and ANZP threads.
Apparently lured to Australia to work as a teacher where she can get much better pay than NZ. Nothing on if Swifts approached Hume, or the other way round.
Crampton has PT qualifications, may be looking to do something similar in Aus? However like a lot on here, recall her original plan was to move to the States by her partner. Who knows, he could also be in Aus?
in reply to: 2024 SSN SIGNING AND TEAM NEWS #1368080I just went onto Hume’s Instagram and she posted a pic from the State Netball Centre at Sydney Olympic Park. Is she a Swifts TP? I looked at the Swifts stories but they were too fuzzy to make anything out.
Is Temu confirmed as a TP with Swifts or am I making that up?
From a Ferns perspective I always expected it to get worse before it got better, especially without Ekenasio there – for both her on and off court contributions.
There was an earlier mention re Ferns hype about fitness but they are always slow to start or fade late in games. I expect Taurua to remain in her role, but her constant mentions of intensity – whether it be a lack of it at ANZP level or difficulty maintaining it in the Ferns environment is the unlock she’s trying to solve. I wonder if she may look to freshen up her assistant coach/S&C for the next cycle? Bring in new thinking?
If Eke carries on until 2027 our other GA needs to be prepared to share minutes with her as I don’t think she’s a 60 min player anymore. Metuarau and now Heffernan and Malesala have all had a taste, over to them to make their mark in ANZP. Wilson is looking largely redundant if she can’t reinvent herself as a reliable GA a la Thwaites. Also think Noels/whoever takes over has to remember to develop Walmsley too. Yes Nweke is still relatively inexperienced but as NWC showed, if we don’t have that strong back-up option we’re screwed.
The midcourt is a funny one and will persist for a while. Without Crampton (who I noted from a Storm Purvis IG post this week has moved to Sydney with Jamie Hume FYI..) we’re still shuffling through the options. Unsure if MRB is the answer at WA after the last few series. Best I’ve seen Souness play since CWG and think her and Gordon will be better for their ANZP season together. I suspect Earle will go from strength to strength after her Ferns experience and think Kate Heff’s next 1-2 years is firmly at WD.
Defence wise, they’re all talented individuals but gee they’re inconsistent. At their best Burger and Jury are world class but were found wanting during this series. Karaka for her speccy intercepts and beautiful bringing of the ball through court really struggles against the big nations and I think we may have seen the last of Watson in a black dress. Stythe and Burley have it all to play for in ANZP.
@Kwkiwi Ekenasio posted a story yesterday of running shuttles at a local (NZ) school, I don’t think she’s over in the UK with the team.
Intrigued re Heffernan for all of Taurua’s commentary when picking her touring side, she was adamant she wasn’t going to elevate Georgia for the sake of it… Haven’t found any quotes from her post game as to why Georgia/no Amorangi. Any insight??
We really seem to struggle to hit the ground running and new a few games to hit our straps.
Without seeing the combination in action, I can’t help but think Walmsley and Nweke together would be messy and they’d be in each other’s space?
Assume Taurua will think long term she can meld Amelia into a Koenan-like predominantly GS/GA switch-up option.
Malesala should be fine. Good court craft like Metuarau but more willing to put up the long shots.
Despite what Taurua has said surely Georgia Heffernan will be on the bench for the tests to make 12??
in reply to: Silver Ferns Squad for 2023/24 #1367572I’m a big Heffernan fan, but I do think Noels has her blinkers on at times and won’t pull her off when a change is needed – as was highlighted at NWC IMO.
I hope MSB gets an opportunity at Nations Cup (surely as back-up WD to Heffernan versus GD behind Burger and Karaka?) to show what she can bring on court.
in reply to: Silver Ferns Squad for 2023/24 #1367288Other interesting tidbits – Kate Heffernan and Grace Nweke are Karaka’s VCs for the tour. Good opportunity for those two.
