From an outsiders perspective, how much of a team is put together by a board/management versus the Coach?
Is YMD being dictated to, to have an international GS or is she driving this?
I can understand the POV to have experience replace the starting GS of the last 5 years, but also recall Dunn was a newbie in 2018 and it was the foresight of YMD that handed her that GS bib.
In saying that, you have to think Walmsley made the decision to stay, based on the knowledge she is very much the third shooter?

I’ve been thinking. Maybe look ahead to our NWC defence next year? ??Anyone have more context on this comment? Assume re COVID protocols.
“Overall we can technically name up to 20 in the team so there’s scope to name a 12 plus eight if those players as reserves are ready and capable of taking the court.”
Pulse progressed with their signings “2023 team to be named in coming days”.
Mature quote from Dunn – wants to challenge herself in a new environment. Good on her.
Still only 22. Amazing.
in reply to: Silver Ferns trialists #1345268@Nesian what are you hearing at the stadium re Steel? Is Fisher staying or going? Would love Bloxham to back in Tui. It almost felt that last quarter combo of Tui and Heffernan was with an eye to the future.
Does THRSR have another season in her legs?
Sorry am mashing this Ferns chat with ANZP.
in reply to: Silver Ferns trialists #1345267Agree with others comments around some lucky to be named as triallists. For a Constellation Cup or Quad Series I’d probably say yes to Johnson because she grows a few inches taller in a black dress. But unfortunately I don’t think her body can hack the tournament format where she will need to turn up day in, day out.
For the defence, the easy thing to do would be Taurua name the Pulse and Mystics combinations.
Midcourt wise I’m pretty confused. Crampton will definitely be there. Gordon should be there. MRB too? Is there room for Saunders? Maybe Heffernan instead? I think I’ll refuse to watch us play England or any of the knockout games with either Kersten or Winders in the team.
Shooters I wonder if Noels might spring a surprise or two. Dunn, Nweke and Wilson don’t go into two spots. If she doesn’t pick Ekenasio then surely it’s Mes and Metuarau as the two GAs? I don’t want TPSR anywhere near that goal circle.
in reply to: Silver Ferns trialists #1345265YMD should invest in Walmsley. She did the same with a young Dunn five years ago.. I actually think Metuarau is a very ‘giving’ GA and is able to strike up a great connection with whoever her shooting partner is – think Tuivaiti, Dunn, Fisher. Would be a good opportunity for Metuarau to show/grow her leadership within a shooting pairing.
in reply to: Burger out of Commonwealth Games contention #1345134Bugger! Burger has the X Factor down in that defensive end.
Surely this is an opening for Kersten or Winders?
I would prefer to have Gordon and Heffernan manage WD with one of the defenders being the third back-up but unsure if we’ll get that?
in reply to: 2022 ANZP GRAND FINAL – PULSE v STARS #1345109Didn’t want to start a new thread just yet, @Ian let us know when we have the AOK ha-ha.
However see Charlotte Elley has put up a post on Instagram saying “thanks for the memories Tactix”.
Nothing from the Tactix IG itself, or any comments from her current team mates.
Didn’t say she was retiring, perhaps popping up elsewhere? Also, her partner is Mitchell Drummond who plays for the Crusaders. He may be shooting off overseas and she could pop up in VSL if he’s playing in Europe?
in reply to: 2022 ANZP GRAND FINAL – PULSE v STARS #1344944Is that because several defenders won’t be making themselves available for selection, or aren’t hitting fitness targets and Manua’a is closer to Birmingham than we think, @mcleod?
in reply to: 2022 ANZP GRAND FINAL – PULSE v STARS #1344936Can you give us some more detail @mcleod?
Ferns triallists – how many are picked?
I think in the shooting end too many GS and not enough GA options – Eke would really only be considered GS at the moment, if she can even pass the beep test.
Dunn, Ekenasio, Mes, Metuarau, Nweke, Wilson
Midcourt the net will be cast wide I’m sure. I think Gordon’s grand final performance and ability to play all three positions will get her across the line. Crampton I just don’t see being dropped. I think Saunders will get the nod for her experience (Noels likes pinnacle event experience) and then maybe Kersten? I really don’t think she deserves to be there, but..
Crampton, Earle, Gordon, Heffernan, Kersten, Poi, MRB, Saunders, Sounness, Winders
Keen to see who’s got the fitness goods. Jury is your starting GK. I think Burger might be best placed at WD. I’d love Temu to get a ticket to Birmingham. Would mean two, potentially all three of Fitzpatrick, Johnson and Karaka don’t make it.
Burger, Burley, Fitzpatrick, Johnson, Jury, Karaka, Manu’a, Temu
in reply to: 2022 ANZP GRAND FINAL – PULSE v STARS #1344912Both Stars and Pulse teams with haka to their respective supporters to round out proceedings.
in reply to: 2022 ANZP GRAND FINAL – PULSE v STARS #1344908Agreed @Nate was a bizarre call.
Also imagine some may be ‘rubbed up the wrong way’ about the several references to “Mum and I said X, Y, Z.”
in reply to: 2022 ANZP GRAND FINAL – PULSE v STARS #1344906Wilson very gracious loser in her post game comments.
in reply to: 2022 ANZP GRAND FINAL – PULSE v STARS #1344900I hope Dunn can pass that Ferns beep test..
in reply to: 2022 ANZP GRAND FINAL – PULSE v STARS #1344896The incumbent Ferns captain and starting Ferns GS have been very poor for the Stars too. Not all on MRB’s shoulders.
