I think bringing Dunkley on at the end of the 2nd was a smart decision, the firebirds will have started the game riding high off the win and it’s about maintaining that energy and not getting fatigued. The Firebirds have done that well recently rotating Gardner and Dunkley. Good to see Dwan being left on for the SS period and not getting subbed off for Venter who I don’t rate out at GA much, she’s much better under the post at GS.Zara CollingsParticipantAugust 23, 2020 at 10:34 pmPost count: 313Zara CollingsParticipantAugust 22, 2020 at 10:48 pmPost count: 313
That is very true! I love Nat, but honestly I’d love to see her somewhere where she swings across to GA a little more since she’s been put there quite a lot recently for the Roses with Housby and Harten taking a break last year. It will be interesting what happens with contracts anyway with Cullen if they look to get her back or not.Zara CollingsParticipantAugust 22, 2020 at 9:29 pmPost count: 313
I agree al_ex, Nelson should have had a few more years behind experienced goalers to build herself into it a little more. I just do not think she is a 60 minute starting 7 player at the moment.
I love watching Fraser, she has been so impressive since coming on last year and has really stepped up again this year. I just do not know who you would replace to give her a contract. When the swifts midcourt fire they really do fire. If anything I think Maddy Proud is still working her way back in to things and Hadley and Haythornthwaite do seem to be the best C/WA combo at the moment.Zara CollingsParticipantAugust 21, 2020 at 7:32 pmPost count: 313
I do think as part of the end of the game washup and stats it would be helpful to see who has been cautioned etc throughout the game as I so think we miss a lot of it. Especially after a goal is scored and we are already seeing the next centre pass, sometimes in the background you can hear a player being warned and have no idea what for.
Considering it happened in the VNSL this year and has happened recently at the Quad series with Karin Burger, I was aware of the rule and the protocol, but got confused as to the reaction of the players and the commentators. Jo Harten would also be well aware of the disciplinary steps considering she was the one being obstructed when Burger got sent off! Does seem like the Giants tried their luck a little…
Just shows you how easy it is to get caught up in the moment rather than deal with the situation calmly which is where I think Giants lost the match. Whether the challenge was dangerous or not, Tilly should have been brought on in GD.Zara CollingsParticipantAugust 20, 2020 at 5:46 pmPost count: 313Zara CollingsParticipantAugust 19, 2020 at 10:40 pmPost count: 313
I like the attacking line of Hay, Austin and Harten and I am glad COB got a run out even if it was for a short period of time.
Makes no sense to me at all why McDonnell wasn’t put on for the last quarter, she needs court time to develop and with such a strong combination working so well in front of her it would have been a great opportunity. Julie Fitzgerald stick a little too strongly to a starting 7 for me. Give Parmenter a break and mix it up defensively! Manua can play WD with McDonnell in GD!
Total shambles of a game. Will be telling of the Giants character and Manua in particular how they come out at the weekend.Zara CollingsParticipantAugust 18, 2020 at 11:37 pmPost count: 313Zara CollingsParticipantAugust 18, 2020 at 8:33 pmPost count: 313
I really like watching Lara Dunkley, she’s so calm with the ball. Whilst Mimi has had a great season so far I’m glad that Dunkley is getting some more court time.
Things finally seem to be clicking with the Swifts again. I do think Haythornthwaite is the best WA and Proud and Hadley are much more suited to rotating C. Even Hadley at WD.Zara CollingsParticipantAugust 17, 2020 at 6:54 pmPost count: 313Zara CollingsParticipantAugust 16, 2020 at 11:30 pmPost count: 313Zara CollingsParticipantAugust 16, 2020 at 5:59 amPost count: 313
I don’t understand why they don’t use Hay, Austin and Harten as a combo more often. Yes, CBass is the diamonds captain, but I really don’t think she has been playing well this season and you can be a great captain without always being on court for a full 60. I’d also be interested to see COB take the court, even at C to see what she can do. Don’t think JLP has had a great season and it’s too much to keep playing her at C for whole matches. The Giants have a great squad but it seems like there are either a lot of egos that nobody wants to upset by switching things up a little more, or they don’t trust the depth of the squad.Zara CollingsParticipantAugust 16, 2020 at 5:54 amPost count: 313
