Last weekend, we saw round 7 of the ANZ Premiership, the last round based solely out of the Auckland Netball Centre.

Unlike previous rounds, there were no last minute nail-biters and no matches close enough for the awarding of a bonus point to the loser. But it wasn’t all one way traffic. After Pulse accounted for Magic easily on Friday, they backed up on the Saturday with a much tougher match against Stars. In fact, they trailed by two at 3/4 time, but as has happened regularly this year, just when it looked as if the defending champs were under pressure, they rose to another level and completely dominated the final quarter. At the moment, Pulse appear to be doing just enough to win. They’re really yet to put in a full four quarter performance. When they do, look out. But on the other hand, they are giving opposition teams a chance. Will one of them be able to really capitalise. In the battle of teams lining up to challenge Pulse, Tactix won an important match against Stars with shooter Ellie Bird shooting 37/37. The upset of the round came when Steel defeated Mystics 47-41 with a great all round team performance. Sadly, Kalifa McCollin joined the growing list of injured Steel shooters in this match, but hopefully her injury isn’t too serious and she can get back on court to finish the season. Round 8 starts tonight.

Meanwhile, the on again, off again, ever changing fixture for round 1 of Suncorp Super Netball now sees all matches played in Qld for the foreseeable future. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly when the competition kicks off on Saturday afternoon. It’s been the longest off-season ever!
