After months of preparation and excitement we are on the final countdown for the Vitality Netball World Cup 2019, with just one week to go. There is plenty to look out for over the next couple of weeks, so in this post we’ll be signposting where you can follow the tournament and keep up to date with all the latest news and developments!
As teams start to arrive in Liverpool and the UK from today, over the weekend we will see some thrilling warm-up matches between Manchester Thunder and both the England Roses and Australian Diamonds! You can follow the latest on this here.
Next Tuesday 9th will see the 16 captains come together alongside the World Cup trophy, and on the 10th netball’s traditional candle lighting ceremony will take place at Liverpool’s iconic St George’s Hall. The ceremony, which dates back to the first Netball World Cup in 1963, invites captains from every team to light a candle and pledge to honour the spirit of the game.
The real excitement starts as the first teams of the tournament get on court in next Friday’s matches; New Zealand will face Malawi, Australia will play Northern Ireland, Barbados will battle it out against Singapore and first-time World Cup qualifiers Zimbabwe will play Sri Lanka. The 12th July will also see a spectacular opening ceremony take place, which you can read more about here.
Follow the World Cup action live in the UK on the BBC and Sky Sports, in Australia on Channel 9 and New Zealand on Sky Sports New Zealand.
