I don’t think they’re the only team to have some final huddles as just who is on court (especially in intense moments like that) but you’re right, netballgirl. It’s a gamble and they’d be really hoping no injuries to either Austin or Garbin.
@netballgirl Vixens huddles after timeouts are always the 7 on court, so no snub.
Also, they are already playing mostly their bench due to injuries.
I think they’ve only had their contacted 10 players available once this season (Graham is contracted, but only after MJ dropped out, so was always going to spend almost all her time on the bench)Oh I didn’t know that, I just saw her returning to the bench and felt bad for her.
Would love to see her at least get a quarter.
I don’t think Graham needs anyone feeling sorry for her. How many other 18 year olds are getting the experience she is? Youngest contracted player isn’t she?
Vixens strategy differs to other clubs with young players. Get them absolutely ready then let them run. Lambden did what she did last night because of the work over the last few years as a TP and captaining Fury / Reserves. It’s why they have had a lot of their TPs contracted to other clubs, those clubs know they are ready based on the work done in the Vixens program.
So far this year the Vixens have had their 10 for one game, round 3 and yet they are top of the ladder. That’s impressive depth.
Successful teams don’t snub their own players @netballgirl. They build confidence in their units, which strengthens their team/squad/organisation.
Respectfully, compare that to Fbirds. Had this happened in their timeout, I would agree that she may have been snubbed.
1/4 time: Mavericks 16-15
An entertaining first quarter with Mavericks just edging it thanks to one more super shot. Molly Jovic and Lara Dunkley both playing well in the midcourt.
Gains: FIR 2-1
Penalties: MAV 17-13
Turnovers: 5-51/2 time: Mavericks 34-30
Mavs edged further in front in Q2. Best for them so far are Molly Jovic & Kim Jenner, for Firebirds Lara Dunkley & Ruby Bakewell-Doran. Sinclair is 4/4 from 2pt territory.
Gains: MAV 4-3
Penalties: FIR 27-23
Turnovers: MAV 11-10Maddi Ridley is on court for her first game in this third Q. Mavs threatening to run right away with it now as the turnovers start to mount up against the Firebirds. The score is 40-32.
Whenever AFL clubs dump their coach, the team always seems to come back and play well the next week.
Fairly safe to say that’s not happening to Firebirds.
Frantic scrap for rebounds in the last few minutes of third quarter resulted in Jenner passing the ball from the rebound to midcourt and running on to catch her own pass
No one seemed to notice it but very fun play to watch
3/4 time: Mavericks 53-42
Mavs looking dominant now. They’ve only missed 2 shots at goal. And Jok has rebounded them both. Firebirds made some changes to start the 3rd Q and they just didn’t work.
Gains: MAV 8-5
Penalties: FIR 44-33
Turnovers: FIR 16-15Full time: Mavericks 73-61
Mavericks won every Q against a disappointing Firebirds and completed a comfortable victory, headlined by 97% shooting accuracy. POTM Molly Jovic had to go off before the end with blood coming from her nose after an accidental knock
