Australia won their 8th world title in a game many believe to be one of the greatest of all time. Trailing New Zealand for most of the game and behind by 6 at 3/4 time, it was a great last Q comeback from Australia and in a frantic last minute, NZ missed their opportunity, only to see Australia take the ball down court with a young Sharelle McMahon scoring the winning goal in the last second. It was the third world championship in a row where Australia won the title having beaten NZ by one goal. A few great Australian players bowed out in this game, including Australian captain Vicki Wilson who went out a winner despite a poor game personally which saw her on the bench for the last Q.
