FACTS, STATS, RECORDS
Australia won their 12th World Cup. They maintained their record of finishing no worse than 2nd at any World Cup. Since the introduction of finals, they have appeared in every one, having never lost a semi final. Their record in finals is 7-2 from 9 matches.
England equalled their best ever World Cup placing of 2nd. They reached their first ever final after winning their first semi final at their eighth attempt. During the tournament, they defeated Australia at the World Cup for the first time.
Jamaica finished with a medal for the fourth time and for the first time in 16 years. They have played seven semi finals and are yet to win and progress to the final. During the tournament, they defeated New Zealand at the World Cup for the first time.
New Zealand finished 4th, their lowest ever placing and the first time they’ve missed a medal at a World Cup. They lost a semi final for the first time ever after seven straight wins. During the tournament, they became the first country to score 9,500 World Cup goals.
Uganda (5th) and Tonga (8th) both achieved their highest World Cup placings. Uganda defeated South Africa in the playoff for 5th, repeating their result from last year’s Commonwealth Games.
Jade Clarke and Geva Mentor of England, and Latonia Blackman of Barbados all equalled the record of six World Cup appearances previously set by Rhonda John-Davis of Trinidad & Tobago.
The last three Netball World Cups (and also last year’s Comm Games) have all been won by a country beating the team which had defeated them earlier in the group stage.
Since the introduction of Netball World Cup finals, there have been nine so far. On seven occasions, it has been Australia v New Zealand. The combined total margin in those seven finals is just 14 goals, which is lower than the margin in each of the other two finals.
And as they didn’t meet at this tournament, there is still just one goal separating Australia and New Zealand in World Cup history. Australia leads 759 to 758 after 17 matches at 16 World Cups.

STAGE TWO
After the completion of Stage one, three new groups were drawn up for Stage two. Group E is a group of 4 to decide who finishes in positions 13 to 16. Groups F & G are for the top 12 teams. Group F is made up of the top three teams from Groups A & B, while Group G is for the top three teams from Groups C & D. In Groups F & G, some countries carry forward points from matches against teams that they’ve already played. So for example, Australia has already played and beaten Tonga and Fiji, so they will now start Group F with 4 carryover points and go on to play England, Malawi and Scotland.
