I feel like a complete fool. After the TJ series I wanted Noel’s sacked, Heffernan had to go as well, Ekenasio was playing so poorly.
Even me the die hard Poi fan, didn’t think she would be wearing the black dress ever again.
I didn’t think they would get within 10 of the Diamonds, etc etc.Not long later they win 3 in a row by 10+. Win in Aus for 1st time since 2019.
Biggest winning margin since the Irene era of 2006.@mcleod – no need to feel like a fool, I would say 99% of everyone who knows even an iota about netball was in exactly the same boat, and for good reason – they (the SF’s as a whole) gave us very little reason to keep faith in them, and it sucks that everyone felt that way, but I am so glad that they have fought through all of that and have proven to not just us but themselves that they can do it, and it just took them finally being able to play their own brand of netball, not forcing them to play a certain way – and boom here we are!!
Yes she did TB. Game one of CC, team list Poi at WA. I said to the Cat, stop playing Poi at Wing A she isn’t good enough in that position. 60min later what a awesome display by Poi at Wing A
Finally watched game 2 and 3. So impressed with the ferns. I agree that they are better at withstanding the pressure. I would like to see the starting 7 get a bit of rest and see some bench players, especially Walmsley, and more of Mason and COB.
In regards to the errors from the diamonds, i think you can categorise them in to 2 groups – “accidental”/without external influence (like breaking), or forced due to good defence. And i would suggest that many of those errors seen from the diamonds, like Hadley catching the ball out of court, or Koenan missing close range shots, were due to strong defensive pressure. It’s not fair to expect players to be able to counteract all measures of defence. Otherwise, what’s the point of defence? I wouldn’t crucify the likes of Austin, Watson or Hadley. They have been so dominant that we aren’t used to seeing them lose the battle against their respective defenders. The ferns just played so cohesively that they have finally cracked. They need a plan B on attack, but i don’t know if there is enough time before game 4 to implement something totally unexpected
I hope Taurua is going for the 4 win slam. I don’t want to see the bench put on unless the game is out of reach of the Aussies. This would be a historic moment in the Ferns’ history and may not ever get emulated again. This is professional sport, not school girl stuff where everyone gets a go.
The Aussies are going to be going all out to try and prevent a whitewash. Would be grossly unfair to subject Walmsley to Bruce and Klau when they are in that mode. (Btw has anyone noticed Klau shoving Eke in the back repeatedly around the centre third, trying to prevent Eke’s drive to the ball).
Plenty of time next year for the bench to get full games next year when it doesn’t matter. We even have an excuse if we get thrashed – that Nweke was unavailable…

I would like to see the bench get game time. NZ don’t have a plan B at the moment as we saw from the World Cup. We need to develop a second shooter fast. And we need to see what the bench are capable of. No good having them on the bench if they can’t perform. Let’s see what they can do. It will lessen the hurt for the aussies if they win. You don’t want them to be too angry, because they will rebuild and come back twice as hard. But I still want the ferns to win 4-0. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Shimona Jok in the green and gold next year.
Is there no longer a stand down if you represent another country in Netball?
I think that rule only applies if you represent a country at the World Cup. She never was named in the 12 for Jamaica. Even though she still received a medal. That’s how she was eligible to play for the Mavs this year. Plus there’s a bit of tension between her and a few of the other Jamaicans I’ve heard.
The stand down rule is that you can represent another country, you only need to stand down from the next World Cup if you represented another country in the previous World Cup.
So Jok is eligible to represent Australia at any time moving forward, even tomorrow night – the only question is if she would be eligible to play for Australia at the next World Cup because she was a reserve for Jamaica in 2023.

Jok would be because she never took court. Being a reserve doesn’t mean you’re in the actual squad.
I wonder if she’s been in talks with the diamonds because it’s very interesting she’s not named in the Roses v Jamaica series.
Another thing, I wouldn’t be surprised if Richo has something to do with it, she does have strong links to Shimona.
Great option if she is eligible. I appreciate your reasoning and it makes sense too, would just be great to have it confirmed.
The Ferns bench would be getting a pretty good run in the training sessions (eg Walmsley vs Jackson, Mason vs Nweke, O’Brien vs Heffernan) no need to try and put them out there in the 4th test today. It’s neither here nor there with the whole of next season’s international series for them.
