Silver Ferns v England: Coach Dame Noeline Taurua under fire for substitution strategy
Fun fact: Since the start of the 2021 Taini Jamison Trophy, the Silver Ferns have won just one 3rd quarter against the Roses in 14 matches.
Q1: NZ +19 goals
Q2: NZ +13 goals
Q3: ENG +32 goals
Q4: NZ +11 goals🤔

So often, the 3rd quarter coincides with new players out on court. Perhaps the way this is done should be reassessed as its rarely a single player that is introduced, its normally more – or bibs swapped.
I do wonder if Taurua is going to walk away after this series. While taking off a C who was driving well extra was a brain explosion she can’t be held responsible for players, who perform well in trainings doing stupid things like breaking, balls badly passed or passed out court etc. Thats on the players themselves.

Why do I get the feeling, that something is happening in ferns camp.
Mcleod – it just seems devoid of any enjoyment – there’s no real spark… you see all the ANZ teams having fun, enjoying themselves, and it shows out on court, but it’s like as soon as they get into the Ferns camp that is forced to stay at the door. I know it’s a slightly different environment but you play/do you best when you’re also enjoying yourself.
I think Maddy’s interview at half time may’ve opened a can of worms that Noels didn’t want opened
The fitness standard issue is so baffling.
Selection seems to be based on that alone. Almost every eligible player in the ANZP has the opportunity to trial.
I just assume the Diamonds meet certain standards, as in it is part of their selection. If they don’t meet them, they receive feedback and coaching and support to bring them up to that standard. However, within the Diamonds it appears there are various factors that determine their fitness, including their natural flair and talent, their decision making at crucial points in the game, game smarts and ability to stick to the game plan/processes when certain things happen etc
Sports science and psychology tells us these days that it is not just flair and talent or fitness that leads to success. It’s having the right balance of both across the team and how individuals can come together, each contributing something unique to the team.
That balance is seriously missing with the Ferns.
Im pretty sure Noels indicated (very loosely) that players weren’t hitting the circle edge and kind of hinted that was Gordon. But hey, if the ball isn’t passed to her at the circle edge and she has to stop to catch it away from the edge, well that’s not on her.
I would dearly love to see all the SF middies driving up the middle of the court consistently because being behind the Roses middies wont do it tomorrow.I think the Ferns will take game 3.
They will not want a whitewash. The Roses will have to play some of the bench, JT has kept roughly the same 8 players for the last 4 games. Williams, Funmi, Allison and Tchine have been on court a lot.
QUESTION:
Something for y’all to ponder. The SF have missing, potentially starting, players, Karaka, Watson and THSR. Would the Ferns have scored around 5 more goals if any one of them were playing?Wills and Bloxham will be coaching aboard next season. Will they impose the NZ style on their new teams?
🤔🤔
Hmm would NZ benefit from non-NZ coaches?? I’m sure Tamsin and SFB would jump at the chance
Karaka has been in good form this season and Watson is a big game player, though she had a relatively quiet season by her high standards. So potentially if they were on the bench, they would have been a good sub for Jury or Mason in game 2, rather than Mikaere. Not confident TPSR would have made a difference as i feel Fadoju would have been all over her lazy passes.
What is the line up you would like to see from both teams?
Ferns
GS Nweke
GA Walmsley
WA COB
C Gordon
WD Heffernan
GD Burger
GK JuryRoses
GS Tchine
GA Housby
WA Pearson
C Allison
WD Fadoju
GD Williams
GK Harvey@Tasman, thanks for correcting me, I got the wrong SR sister.
I’m hoping to see Pearson in the shooting with HH at GS.
Harvey and Williams would be an interesting defence as they played together at Loughborough.
I’d also like to see Shaw and Rattu. So would drop Joseph and A N other from the 12.
Karaka and Watson would’ve helped to challenge Jackson and Burger/Mason.
No disrespect to Mikaere, but Jackson’s spot is secure there.
Which one of the Ferns will drop out of the 12 tomorrow?
I suspect Poi might be out of the 12 for game 3, to make it 2 games each for her Souness and COB during the series.
I’d like to see Walmsley start at GS. I don’t think Grace has played well enough to own the bib – perhaps a bit complacent?
I’d start with:
Walmsley
Ekenasio
COB
Gordon
Heffernan
Burger
JacksonMaybe try Souness at C and Gordon at WD. Mason as impact at GD.
