Not like Malesala has posted her own farewell message. Just the post a week or so ago to stay she’s received a scholarship to further her legal studies, but nothing in that to say she’s having a sabbatical/time away from the game.

With Charlie Bells signing, it will only benefit Maias’ GA game as it will be a like-for-like shooter when she plays for the Ferns (Nweke).

I wonder if all these Aussie signings are a sign that NZ will join SSN in 2026, meaning these Aussies are coming across to secure a spot for the 2026 SSN season as they can’t get a spot in any of the Aussie teams.

@silverferns1 I don’t see Charlie Bell getting much time to be fair. There was a reason the Tactix didn’t keep her on earlier in the year. In fact her signing makes no sense to me what so ever. Whilst there are a number of Aussies who have signed over here, how many will actually start? How many will get good game time? For whatever reason they don’t seem to perform all that well when they come over. Thwaites being an exception.

Next season will be interesting as nearly all teams now have height at both ends of the court.

              Completely agree Nesian.
Charlie Bell is still way too weak on the take. I believe her limited mins in ANZ was against the Steel who probably had the weakest defensive pairing.
When she played vs Tbirds in last round of the year, the Tbirds took full advantage of the 5 mins she was on court. I don’t think Lightning scored whilst she was on court.
Think Bell will be bench bound with Maia and falkner the preferred pairing.

Wallam will see a lot of court time, but don’t think the others will.
Dakota Thomas – wasn’t ever called up by Swifts, they elected for Donahue and Temu.
Charli Fidler – one opportunity. But Fitz has her favourites.
Remi Kamo – will get court time as really only her and Burley up to it for the Stars.

              Think that’s all.

There have been heaps of Aussies signed in NZ over the years and secured their positions. With Kath Harby, Peta Stephens, Nat Avellino, Megan Anderson, Jane Altshwager, Jo Morgan, Peta Scholz, Khao Watts, CBass & Thwaites. For some of them it reignited their careers and got them back into national honours. And for some it ended their careers eg Kristina Brice, CBass 🤷‍♂️

It’s really only been 2 incidents, although recent, where the imports haven’t been used Mvula and Samason.
I feel Bell will be used a lot. Just me purely speculating (cause that’s what I do 😂). But I think there’s a couple of reasons it took Maia so long to sign. I feel she might have been trying to suss out other options, possibly Mystics? Or wanting a clear outline of what her role would be eg starting GA to backup GS or starting GS to backup GA? She’s a SF squad member, she knows she’ll need consistent court time.
I think this is going to be great for Maia’s game. Healthy competition within the team can only be a positive for her. She seems like someone who is happy to work hard for her position.

@TB Is it bad that I don’t know half those players you mentioned? 😂 I think they were from a time long before I was interested in netball. I was thinking more since the time when Brice came over, that period until now there have been a few that struggled or didn’t get much court time.

I do think Wallam will go well, and I’m looking forward to watching her play.

Maia had signed pretty early on, she was just the last announcement. There really wasn’t much to it.

@nesian and there I go again, thinking too deep re Maia 🤦‍♂️😂

Brice is such a weird one. Cause she’s a very strong shooter, I wonder if she just clashed with coaches too much? I mean she did a stint with Giants too, and got limited court time. Yet you had the likes of Kim Green say she’s the easiest to feed 🤷‍♂️

@Nesian, I struggled with most of those names too 🤪

@TB, you didn’t mention Kate thingy/something. She was 188+, dark hair, played GS but got the GA in NZ. Always looked like she was chewing gum during the game

Beveridge, played for tactix, and possibly replaced with a bench riding Kadeen Corbin (but I may have my years confuzzled being nearly 4am lol) also Kumwenda had a pretty dynamic partnership with Mes down there too

@Kerryn, Beveridge! Thank you. I can picture her face but not the full name.

8.30pm here watching the US open tennis and enjoying salmon infused with ginger, lemon & chilli 😋

@kerryn I agree. But my fav shooting combination at Tactix was Kumwenda/Thompson with Keisha Grant at WA. They had a great season that year, I thought their lack of height in defence hurt them.

@jinxibo totally forgot about Kate Beveridge, and Charlie Hodges. Also Julie Corletto did a season at Mystics.
