Looks like these will go ahead after all in Glasgow. It’s likely to be a cut down Games, but netball should still be a part of it.

Glasgow held the Commonwealth games in 2014 so their facilities should be fairly modern.

Cut to 10 events. Let’s hope netball is one of them.

10 sports is still a good amount.
Breakdancing, Surfing, Skateboard, won’t be there.
Neither will Sailing, Rowing, Kayaking, Equestrian and others that I can’t think of at the moment.

Awesome, must say I’m surprised Rugby 7s missed out, but Netball is a true Commonwealth sport.

Yeah, some big events missed out unfortunately, but as you say, netball is definitely a Commonwealth sport and should be there at least until the Games die out which might not be that long actually!

as glad as I am that netball is there, I’m a little disappointed that squash isn’t (and others that have missed out that aren’t also at the Olympics) for me Comm Games kinda gives the countries where some sports are not so prominent some coverage to encourage others into it – and a chance to get good results when not being totally dominated by certain countries such as diving

I sort of look at Hockey, Rugby, Squash, Cricket, Triathlon not making the cut, those sports are at the next Olympics

Lawn Bowls and Netball are not, so perhaps that’s why they got kept.

                          Good point @mcleod.

I am sure the possible controversy over excluding an event which holds its own as an exclusively women’s event would have also been discussed, particularly because it’s a team event that features some countries not well known for their presence in sport.

Netball is guaranteed to fill seats as well, especially at the pointy end.

If netball is serious about trying to get netball in the Olympics, the trimmed down games might be the perfect chance to include men’s netball. Let’s admit that the men’s game is not competitive and there aren’t going to be many countries that will be able to compete – just look at the recent game between the Kelpies and Net blacks… But the fact that the games are “trimmed down” might be the perfect excuse to only include 8 teams in the event, or even less. It will be a good launch point and demonstration of the international body’s commitment to diversifying netball competitions. Just a thought. But with only 12-18 months left, doubt it!

There are a lot of men’s teams out there, Jamaica and Uganda have strong teams though unfortunately they receive no funding and can’t play overseas.

I actually think Mixed Netball could be another good way of helping get netball into the Games. The Olympics are trying to include more and more mixed events. Mixed Netball is played now of course but it’s never the top players. You never see the top women’s players playing mixed. I think it would be good to see the top men and women on the same team.
