When Kiera Austin is on, she just dominates. So far, today is one of those days. Vixens 56-46

        3/4 time: Vixens 58-46

A spectacular goal from Sophie Garbin on the buzzer puts Vixens out by 12. But Kiera Austin is simply everywhere, the best on court by some distance. Still a lot of whistle.

        Gains: VIX 10-7
        Penalties: MAV 65-52
        Turnovers: MAV 21-15

Austin is on her way to having better defensive stats than some defenders.

All falling apart for the Mavericks at this point. Some great attacking plays from Vixens this quarter so far.

There is just something different and fresh about the Vixens this year. They seem much less predictable and are so incredibly well-drilled. Fit too. Garbin obviously contributing a lot, but Ellis is doing better than expected, Mannix/Moloney in excellent form. Austin unstoppable when she’s on.

I agree Guyza, and they have a calm vibe about them – I don’t know how to explain it but they never seem flustered as a group.

Oddly think Liz moving to Lightning has been the refresh they need. No more having Austin and Watson competing for space.

Lily Graham is on! Kiera Austin has a well-earned rest with Vixens running away with the game.

Oh no, Rudi Ellis is down. She’s been replaced by Weston with just 3 minutes left.

Oh no, Ellis goes down clutching her ankle. She was having another great game. If she’s out Vixens defence end will be tested going forward.

Really hope Ellis is OK – she has been shining at the vixens. Mavs just seemed to make silly mistakes at crucial times of the game (much like the Swifts and Firebirds earlier in the weekend).

Gutted for Ellis. I always felt she just needed the right environment and to be backed in consistently and she would develop info a very good SSN GK. She was finally getting that chance.

                          Didn’t look good.

When is Walters back? Otherwise this really is Lambden’s chance, didn’t get much of an oppirtunity in her 3 minutes but she is similar to Ellis in that she just needs a chance and is SSN ready.

                            Full time: Vixens 77-58

Sophie Garbin finishes with a super shot, her 51st goal of the game. After an even start, Vixens gradually asserted their superiority as the game went on. Kiera Austin is POTM. It couldn’t be anyone else. Hope Rudi Ellis is okay.

The crowd of 9,022 at John Cain Arena is the highest regular season crowd for the Vixens.

“The NSW Swifts have confirmed the “private matter” preventing Sam Wallace-Joseph from being included in their match-day squad was unrelated to her anti-trans social media post earlier this year.

Instead, an issue with “behaviour within the team environment” is being worked through with the Trinidad and Tobago international and her management.

Wallace-Joseph reportedly did not turn up to the airport ahead of the Swifts’ round 8 match against the Mavericks in Melbourne, a match in which the club activated nominated player Grace Whyte.”

Great to see Eddy without crutches and brace. On the basis the next two weeks go well with reloading she could well be back in the team in 2-3 weeks.

Was great to see Lambden had her own dress with her player number today. Think she may well find herself a spot in the 10 for the rest of the year even when Eddy comes back given their injury issues. They had Lambden playing a bit of C in the reserves.
