Several changes being made by NZ as Noeline Taurua looks for answers. But they’ve been outplayed today. ENG 57-50
The Roses win 59-55 and take the Taini Jamison Trophy!
59-55 to the Roses in the end. A four goal loss was flattering to the Ferns actually.
Well the last game should be fun- might see a few players that would be on the bench if it was a decider, especially from England.
not sure what NNZ expected re-appointing noeline. do the same thing, get the same results. absolutely embarrassing losing to this under-strength england side on home soil. get toeava in there.
Well done to England. The Ferns had their opportunities, didn’t capitalise on them. My honest opinion is that the players as a group just dont have the mental toughness and grind that the likes of Langman, Kopua, Harrison, and many others had. When the game gets tough they tend to panic and mess up their passing, their shooting. Our defensive end, while better tonight isn’t just going to do it.
NNZ needs to allow more imports in and our NZ players out to get the experience of playing so many different styles of play. Leota has done well with her input into the Roses – it certainly shows.Full time: ENG 59-55
There was a late surge from NZ, but England were in control. They took the win with a strong performance, underlined by a dominant third quarter.
England has now won 8 of the last 10 matches against NZ when at full strength.
I don’t think I agree with this being an “under strength England side”. I’ve been very impressed with Tchine and Pearson. I think that the NZ attack caved under pressure when it counted, and that is something to be concerned about. NZ were pretty lucky to get away with only a 4 goal difference
I don’t understand why Walmsley wasn’t brought on? Even just to give Nweke a breather? And I think poi has proven once and for all she is not at international level
I thought what was really telling was when Gordon was asked at half time what feedback she was given re her subbing toward the end of that second quarter she responded “No feedback”.
Gordon then came back on for Poi, was subbed off again, this time for Heffernan before being brought on a third time…
Who said that? I personally think Housby/Tchine is a better combination than Housby/Cardwell.
The Roses definitely isn’t an understrength side this time around. I rate Tchine way more than Cardwell and Pearson has been impressive. Last year they proved that the second rate side wasnt second rate either.
Honestly I dont know why more players didnt just walk off to SSN – if in fact they were asked.
Pretty depressing. I think I need a gin. Also I think we need the option of Salmon at GA. Ekanasio hasn’t fired these last two games. I honestly don’t understand what more Gordon could have done and then she was subbed off twice?? Bewildering
I agree the 4 goal loss flattered the Ferns – none of them put their hand up today, and Englands win was thoroughly deserved 🙌
The biggest issue for the Ferns seemed to be penetrating England’s mid court defence, which was phenomenal. Tchine is a machine too – she will give Cardwell a good run for staring GS in the future, and easily got the best of Jackson and Mikaere today.
Nweke had the worst game I’ve seen her play, with soft hands and shaky shooting. I thought Heffernan was really close to getting ball several times at WD, without actually getting any.
I’d bring COB back in for game 3 – neither Poi nor Souness really took command.
Good call Maryann, gin o’clock.
My god the ferns are in a rut at the moment.
I don’t think Nweke works well in a combination. She crowds too much of the circle and eke/GA doesn’t have room to move.
I would’ve loved to see Walmsley in GS. The ferns couldn’t find Nweke cleanly and Walmsley would provide more of a moving option, plus an eye to next year with no Nweke.I was disappointed to see COB drop out of the 12 – thought she played well in her debut match.
Ferns are missing a GHeff/Tiana as a GA option. A quick, playmaker GA.
