Now that the rounds are over I thought it would be interesting to see which players clubs could be looking to recruit next year, and where players might like to move to form combinations/gain court time. Interesting to speculate where some international stars might fit in as well. With the creation of an 8th team there could be even more movement than expected next season.

Firebirds: Lightning have both Batcheldor and Bell in the wings, and I think Batcheldor would be great for Firebirds. Provides them more of a back up GS option as well over Stower.

Lightning: As much as I would like to see her stay at Swifts, I think Fraser would be a great starter for them across any of the midcourt positions. It would balance their midcourt better than having 2 WA specialists (as they’ve had thus far) or 2 WD specialists (if they brought in a WD and kept Black).

Swifts: I don’t know if they’d be able to afford her, but Fudoju would offer excellent WD and GD cover.

Giants: I wonder if Jury could be lured over. She’s played under JFitz before. Otherwise Dehaney or bring Ash Ervine back to NSW.

8th team: Kate Eddy hasn’t gotten as much court time this year and would be a great WD/GD swing for the 8th teammate with Brazil’s retirement. There are a host of GAs who could be great for them as well.

I think Vixens, T’Birds and Fever are pretty complete.

I think Thunderbirds could do with another strong WA C option. Maisie has been around for a while but wasn’t the best sub when on court this year unfortunately. Someone like Annie Miller would be good (though she’d never move). Or maybe they’d promote within – Tyler Orr perhaps

I’m continuing the “get Sophie Garbin into GS” crusade. Could she be an option at Vixens? Don’t want to say MJ is on her way out because she is still playing very well, but surely she will be soon. Or at Giants if Harten retires?

Agree Tbirds need another backup WA/C option.

Absolutely agree Sophie Garbin needs a starting GS position. Hopefully she does really well at WC to prove a point (assuming signing will happen after that at this rate)

                She’s already re-signed with Mystics.

Id like to see Mary Cholhok in the league and obviously Fadoju.

Fadoju would be a great pick up but I don’t know where she’d fit in (besides the new team). Swifts don’t need anymore defenders if they keep on the three they have plus Smith

Also do you think Fever would benefit from offloading one of their defenders and getting another GA/WA instead (one that takes the court)? They’d be lost without Sasha or ATN at this point

Verity Simmonds can easily play WA and Anstiss into C.

I feel like when you have JFR in your attack, you can afford to add a bit more to your defence.

Does anyone think Dwan might leave to head back to qld? If she does where will she go? Also will will take the tbirds GA Bib?

I can’t really think of an Australian shooter who would be up for a starting role but maybe could pick Nyah Allan as a rookie shooter? Or if they go international maybe Nicole taljaard from South Africa?

Yes I was going to mention this. Dwan and Dunkley have bought a property together over in Qld and after he chose not to move over to Port Adl this season, I wouldn’t be surprised if the plan was for Dwan to head back home.

That’s why I’m Worried she will leave, I can’t see her going anywhere else besides lightening but that’s if Steph wood retires and I doubt she would want to sit behind Bueta again.

                                Can Letherbarrow play GA?

Matisse played GA during 2020 (it was only for 11:26 to be fair but it seems she did a good job). I don’t know how long she could run it for but she can definitely play there, sort of like an MJ.
