Interesting listen to the insights of the selections. Especially about Erena and Ellie Bird.

Interesting listening. Not surprised by her comments about Ellie, I hope that Amo can work her way back to a black dress with a pull season behind her. Vui hmm, I think there is more going on here. She was it that environment once, never played a game and never got selected again. I just wonder if she doesn’t want to commit 🤔

Oh I need to ask this question, sorry if I sound ignorant but what’s a “YY”?

Pls send me private message if it’s too rude to post here.😬

Wae wae are feet or legs. Referencing the tattoo/ta moko that Mikaere got on her legs in the off season. When they’re talking about her ancestors, ta moko is often (but not always) made up of a person’s genealogy/whakapapa.

No official word regarding Cadbury series. I do hope there is a short series as part of their international build up. Taurua has always been critical of the SF starting internationals ‘cold’.

This interview with DNT, I found very frustrating. It shows the brilliance but also the stupidity of DNT mind.

She explains her reasoning on why Bird was not selected and why Mikaere was, and I found it very contradictory yet made sense at the same time 🤷‍♂️

I do think she over-thinks a lot of things. I feel part of her success back in 2019, had to do with she was actively coaching in the SSN as well as doing her Ferns role. It kept her mind occupied, and she had to deal with what was right in front of her. Instead of trying to regularly come up with “out-of-the-box” plans.

As @Nesian said in another thread – she needs to start walking the talk.

Completely agree TB! She tries too much to be out of the box – shuddering thinking about IVD at GA, Jackson at WD…

I liked that she recognised that the ANZP needs to improve to attract imports. Getting rid of the stupid import restriction would be a good example – allow all teams one import without restriction, and further imports upon application. Wallam would do well for both her career and the ANZP by coming over like Thwaites did.

I also think Mikaere is one of her favourites, having coached her at the Magic and Lightning. I agree Mikaere should have been included however so should have Bird.

When Mikaere came back from SCL, at the same time as Taurua, she was included in one of the squads but didn’t do anything of note. Since then she had ankle/foot? surgery and she’s certainly playing her best netball. I will be interested to see how she goes with someone other than Takarangi in the circle with her.

Ridiculous amount of trialists. 20 would have been plenty. Just wasting peoples time. We know she’s going to select based on her ‘fitness criteria’ so what’s the point of hauling them all through a trial process when she knows who she’s taking already. Goodness she’s had enough chances to look at the players over the season. It will be fitness over form – apart from Poi who is fit but doesn’t seem to get picked. Why isn’t Vui there, she’s one of the few nz shooters with a long shot and plays well with Nweke.

What I got from the interview is that she picked a lot of trialists so they can understand the structures and plans of the Silver Ferns. They may not be ready now for internationals, but when they are ready, they will have a base knowledge of the structures etc. As this group plus a few extras like she said, would form the final NWC ’27 squad.

Its more of an ‘orientation day(s)’ if you will, rather than a trial, is how I’m thinking of it.

Great, four have been sent home already… my guess is there a few from the shooting end who didn’t meet the fitness standards as Noeline said “…The shooting end is one because of people who we can’t select”
