So anyway, where were we before we were so rudely interrupted…

Last weekend, we saw the return of the ANZ Premiership. Matches were only of 48 minutes duration and all played in one venue, the Auckland Netball Centre. But wasn’t it great to just have some actual netball back. And the favourites, Pulse really stamped their authority on the competition with a dominant victory over Stars in the rematch of last year’s grand finalists. There just doesn’t seem to be a weak link in this Pulse team. 2019 rookie Maddy Gordon is a year older and wiser now and even in this team of stars, she shone enough to be awarded the match MVP. Then there is new signing Kelly Jury at the back, picking up an incredible 9 gains. It will take a mighty effort to beat the Pulse this year. Stars stayed with them for the first quarter, but then it was all one way traffic from there. Credit to Stars then, for putting that big defeat behind them and coming out the very next day with a strong win over Tactix. Tactix, like Stars, had already played earlier in the round, beating Steel on Saturday, while Mystics got the better of Magic in the first match on Friday. All in all, the quality of the games was outstanding considering it was the first netball for three months. Players would have had every excuse to be rusty, but that wasn’t the case at all. The ANZ Premiership no doubt picked up quite a few overseas viewers, particularly in the UK, desperate for some netball. Round 3 starts tonight.
