The New Zealand umpires are a lot more pedantic than the Aussie umpires. I hardly notice the Aussie umpires when watching a ssn game yet the nz umpires really start to grate on my nerves as the game progresses. The nz umpires always seem to be determined to stamp their mark on the game. They never play advantage which does not make it conducive to a free flowing game.
@Ian I happened to watch the replay, and whilst she didn’t make contact with her head or neck, Souness head did make contact with the ground, so I guess it does constituted dangerous play as per the rules. So the send off was warranted. That being said, how did MSB not get sent off for her head contact? Definitely thought there were some questionable calls by the umpires that game.
Re IVD, TB is right – pre IVD (basically all of the 90s), NZ would get the odd win here or there. For most of 2000s, AU and NZ were fairly even. There was a small period where NZ were dominant around 2005/2006, but AU were always close (CWG 2006 as a case in point). AU dominated again once IVD faded and before Mes became prominent.
that could of been either teams game and had to be one of the tightest ones ive seen since i started watching ANZ, Jackson did very well on Nweke, poor Walmsley shouldnt she let her team down, it was either going to be her to win it or that rebound from Style
the mention in the interview with Tia afterwards that this is the last time the team will play together, whos going where? is there any truth in Nweke going to SSN?
I was surprised Walmsley took that last shot. I thought she would have put it down (it was a penalty right?) and Metaurua feed it in closer for her. It would have taken up time, and really put Mystics out of arms reach. A tough way to lose, but daaannm did she play an amazing game!
@Kwkiwi the NZ umpires have been great this season. They’ve allowed the game to flow, more-so than normal. The SSN, this season, I found there was A LOT of whistle. Unusually not playing the advantage.Re rumours about Nweke: did anyone else feel there was deeper meaning in her tears at the end of the game?
Like she was really, really crying! With all the rumours going around, I got the feeling her tears may have been a combination of winning and possibly leaving NZs competition. No penalty in that final shot for Walmsley. She did land awkwardly tho, so maybe that contributed to the missed goal. That was certainly a game winning rebound from Stythe tho!
Yeah, she nearly overbalanced. It was just one of those things but it happened at the very worst possible time. If she could, it would have been the perfect time to pass back out and reset.
Omgoodness the fact that Anna Stanley and Adine Wilson don’t know the netball rules really baffles me 🤦♂️😂
I thought it was common knowledge that if a player gets sent off, you can not replace them? Only if your at C can you change cause you won’t be able to start the game without one 🤷♂️I’m still their biggest fans!
Yeah, couldn’t work that out. And they mentioned “bubby” which was Temepara Clark in the 2003 WC final and the fact that another player went into that position, and that was solely because she was the centre!
