Just saw this article and wondering what others think? I would agree with all of these selections. Without selecting my 12+3 just yet, here’s where i think the players sit with selectors based on this year’s ANZP and last year’s CWG form:
Lock:
Nweke
Ekenasio
Crampton
Heffernan
Burger
Watson
Jury
(Not the starting 7 but just 7 players that will definitely be included)Probable:
Wilson
KarakaPossible:
Mes
Selby-Rickit
Toeava
Souness
Kersten
Gordon
FitzpatrickUnlikely:
Winders
Poi
Rueleu-Buchanan
TemuLockerRoom’s 12
Shooters: Ekenasio, Mes, Nweke, Wilson
Midcourt: Crampton, Gordon, Heffernan, Toeava
Defenders: Burger, Jury, Karaka, WatsonThis has been my 12 with Poi instead of Gordon for a while, but I know if two WA specialists are chosen (which I know everyone thinks is preposterous) a C/WD slide will likely be chosen.
Can’t recall if it was posted here either, however an interview with Yvonne Willering said the midcourt make-up depended on where Taurua plays Burger as she sees Heffernan as first choice C (agree). Willering recommends Burger and Watson are the starting defensive pairing but if we play Jamaica she’s pushed forward to WD, Watson at GD and Jury at the back.
Gordon’s versatility has been talked up a lot. I personally don’t like her at WD but within this midcourt this is where she would start.
I do agree with a comment I saw over the weekend that Kersten could very well be in the picture and has been playing her best netball for a while. Yes to WD, however I would grimace if she pulled on the C bib tbh..
My wildcard for WD is Karaka aka Rore in Liverpool..
The new rule allowing teams to bring 3 additional players makes it far less risky to bring specialists, so I expect Noeline will bring both Crampton and Toeava. Crampton can easily run out matches in C against all the teams except the Big 4 as well.
Shooters: Nweke, Wilson, Ekenasio, Mes (TPSR)
Midcourt: Crampton, Toeava, Heffernan, Gordon (Souness)
Defence: Burger, Karaka, Watson, Jury (Temu)I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kersten in for either Gordon or Souness, it’s difficult to know who Noels rates highest of those three. Gordon offers the most versatility and is in better form so that might help her. It will be the bookends that matter for NZL, especially Watson.
My prediction:
Shooters: Nweke, Ekanasio, Wilson, TPSR
Midcourt: Crampton, Heffernan, Toeava, MRB
Defence: Watson, Burger, Jury, KarakaReserves
Gordon/Souness
Mes
Temu/FitzpatrickMes, Ekenasio, Nweke, TP/Maia (haven’t decided yet)
Crampton, Souness, Heffernan, Kersten,
Burger, Watson, Jury, Karaka.Reserves. TP or Maia, Poi, Temu
Any of the previous listed teams could be a possibility. I know we all have our favourites.
No new caps or wildcards. The reserves will be seasoned SF leaders in their own right (Fitzpatrick, Kersten etc). I think the team will be quite structured than based on ANZp form alone. Some unlucky players for sure.

My 12+3
Nweke, Eke, Wilson, Mes
Crampton, Heffernan, Gordon, Souness
Karaka, Jury, Watson, BurgerTPSR, Kersten, Fitzpatrick
A Silver Ferns squad to win the Netball World Cup

Shooters: Nweke, Ekeansio, Wilson, and then unsure if the 4th will be Mes or Selby-Rickit
Mid: Crampton, Heffernan, Souness and Gordon, Id like to see Toeava but shes only a WA like Crampton, maybe Kirstin will make another appearance?
Defenders: Jury, Karaka, Watson and Burger, Fitzpatrick has admitted herself she knows shes on the fringeShooters: Nweke Eke Mes TPSR – (Wilson)
Midcourt: Crampton Toeava Heffernan Souness – (Gordon)
Defence: Jury Karaka Burger Watson – (Sulu)Really scratching my head over TPSR and Wilson. I feel it will come down to them.
Shooters: Nweke, Eke, Wilson, Mes – Res TPSR (soley based on experience not performance)
Middies: Crampton, Heffernan, Souness, Gordon – Res – MRB/Kersten/Winders/Poi (will possibly come down to team connections)
Defence: Jury, Karaka, Watson, Burger – Res MSBWith the reserves system, to me it makes sense to select specialists in your initial 12 and ‘slide’ players in the reserves.
Shooters: Nweke / Wilson / Ekenasio / TPSR (Mes)
Midcourt: Crampton / Heffernan / Toeava / Kersten (Gordon)
Defence: Jury / Watson / Karaka / Burger (MSB)TPSR’s position is most shaky in my view.
My reasoning for picking TPSR over Wilson, as she stood up during the CWGs. It’s been a long time since the Ferns could rely on Wilson.
Kersten is no threat at all, to anyone internationally. She’s a solid player, but no threat.
Shooters: Nweke, Ekenasio, Wilson, Mes
Midcourt: Crampton, Heffernan, Toeava, Souness
Defence: Watson, Burger, Jury, KarakaTravellers: Selby-Rickett, Gordon, MSB.
